I think one of these will be gone at TDL and another at the draft.
I doubt AMac is the one that gets moved, though. - johndewar
I agree I think Coburn and Grossmann won't be here next season. Which makes me sad. I will await news on what return we get... |

that's pretty reasonable.
It also tells me Hextall is gonna shed some D at the TDL. - johndewar
If this means shedding some other salary on the back end, and if Shultz can play this well for another two years, I like it. |

I know you're just trolling but they should seriously be looking at options for moving a couple of those guys. - JAKEw1234
MacDonald isn't going anywhere with his contract.
I would trade Coburn, but not sell low. First round pick or bust.
Schenn, and Grossmann should be moved for any asset just to clear the cap space.
If they can move L. Schenn and Grossmann frees up 7+ million in cap space. Can make a run at Franson. I know he's not ideal, but he's better than anyone they have. |

personally think we should trade as many as these guys as we can, perhaps package with B schenn for young talented defensemen, and then with that money freed up with these trades sign forwards via free agency, only problem is can't think of any good wingers to bring in that could work for us production and salary wise. - arichardson22
EDIT: perhaps belesky, tlusty, frolik, hell maybe bring back J Williams for the right price. |

Schultz buys you time for the guys coming through the system to get where they need to be. |

Wish it were that simple. I think Coburn and Schenn is the only combo that will get you a decent young d-man coming back and you'd need a team with the cap space to take on $7 mill in cap space.
I'm afraid we won't see Hextall trade more than one defenseman at the deadline because of the cap constraints teams in contention have to deal with. Not many contending teams have even enough space for Coburn's cap hit |

You'd likely have to surrender a draft pick just to have someone assume AMac's contract at this point.
If he were playing better, it might be a different conversation. |

I should have specified, but the package deal would be in the offseason/draft when the teams have better idea with their caps. |

I agree....I think if Hextall can trade one at the TDL (I'm betting he thinks he can, given the timing of Schultz's extension), that would be a good thing.
Getting rid of another at the draft would be a nice coup and provide some flexibility. |

This time last season I'd say Grossmann should be the first to go, but now I'm leaning towards Luke Schenn. Speaking as one of his biggest early advocates, he just hasn't been good at all. I know he's young and all that, but he has 482 NHL games under his belt. That's about 30 less games played than Grossmann, Voracek, and Simmonds have. It's only like 120 less games (that's a healthy season and a half of games) than Braydon Coburn has, and Mark Streit isn't very far from that either. I've been trying to believe for a couple years now that there's more to develop, and more to show, but I'm starting to doubt it. I think he's probably in his prime already, and to be honest, I'm ready to move on from him. |

Ah, gotcha. Yeah that makes more sense. If Hextall can unload at least one big defensive contract before trade deadline and one more before the draft, I'll be more than satisfied, even if it's just for a couple of picks/underwhelming defensemen with reasonable cap hits |

Agreed. That worries me as well. There are quite a few teams in contention that could afford to take on MDZ's contract. To me it seems like he and Coburn are the most likely defensemen to get traded by the deadline. |

I don't want to see Hextall make a move to bring in any Dmen. Our prospects are too close to the NHL to give up considerable assets, I think. |

yeah and supposedly a ton of scouts have been looking at MDZ.. I'm hoping he is extended soon, especially with Schultz being signed today. But MDZ is restricted so that's always a plus and something to put aside until offseason |

Schultz has played well, fair deal for both sides.
If Hextall doesn't move out a few dmen at the deadline, I'm concerned it's going to be the same blueline again next year. Which they aren't going to be able to sell to anyone. - PLindbergh31
Morin and Ghost will be serious candidates to play in the top 6. If not on opening night, then later on in the season after some AHL time. |
