I'm just saying, Florida picking a megastar first overall in their building would pretty much be the best thing to put people in the seats for the next season. Hope it doesn't happen, but the possibility is certainly there. - LetsGoBuffalo75
I understand, but I don't remember the draft team winning the lottery, like ever. But don't really know. |

I would be ok with losing this year and getting eichel if it meant winning next year in buffalo and getting Matthews
- Fattony1187
If that was an option I would do that too! Only because another top 2 pick next year would make us silly good in the future. |

Do the people in florida even know its gonna be there ? - cabin
No one in Florida even knows what hockey is, lol. Too many old people that go to bed at 8pm. All their games should start at 5pm, lol |

I am not so sure of that actually working in florida. They just picked a 1st overall stud in ekblad, and have drafted high alot recently with alot of young talent on that roster.
Im not sure anything beyond free tickets and massive promos (free jerseys )actually puts people in the seats down there. |

The last time the hosting team held the #1 pick was 1985.
Toronto selected Wendel Clark.
The draft was held in Montreal in years prior. |

McDavid and whoever is second next year > Eichel and Auston Matthews. I honestly wasn't a big fan of Matthews and the World Juniors. Sure, he is young, but he looked quite lost throughout the tourney. Picking first at home would be fun, but I would definitely like getting McDavid more. Don't want to get jipped yet another time. |

Quick Stewart rant..we should trade him no matter what
1) He's a UFA on the worst team in the last decade. Also the only semi valuable asset left. TRADE him so if he doesnt want to resign with the worst team we at least get something for him. Dont take the risk, if he truly wants to play here let him resign in the off season.
2) This is why he drives teams crazy! He as hot streaks. At the beginning of the year he wasn't impressing anyone. Him and Hodgson were healthy's at points, Then he realizes if he plays he can be traded....starts to look good (strike while the irons hot). Hes been traded twice already from two decent teams that should be a sign. Odds are the Sabres struggles will continue into next year (not as bad) so if he has his deal there's a good chance he sits back and plays like the first half of this year.
3) I like him, kinda want him back but the signs are obvious dont take the risk and get nothing for him. Reminds me of bickell in a way who went off on the last cup run received a solid deal. Currently is an ok player that's more of a cap issue on a good team than producer. |

I do want buffalo to have a complete poster player in mcdavid more than eichel, but I usually don't get what I want, well until TM became the gm, haha. Maybe he is changing the sabres luck! (I did not want to win lottery last year cause we would have had to take ekblad and we need forwards).
I said z long time ago, when I team finished bottom 2 for the second straight year, then won the lottery a few times in the recent past (aside from Edmonton Winning 3 straight and the luck of Colorado). |

He will be traded. But I hear you and I think Murray feels the same way. Another draft pick (or more) to use at the draft to move up makes more sense then keeping him at this point. And we can over pay if we really want to sign him again.

I don't think we would draft second next year. I was more on the opinion we finish like 8th last and end up winning the lottery. In that case eichel and Matthews would be better than mcdavid and the 8th pick

With all the nervousness/excitement/anxiety about wanting to pick first overall, i am interested to hear how many people think the lottery is legitemately rigged.
I dont actually believe it is rigged, but i find it sleazy and at the very least shady how the NHL handles the draft lottery.
Right now the show itself is boring, filled with little anticipation untill that second last card is revealed from the envelope. Without question in a year like this you could turn the lottery into a spectacle if you simply had the drawing itself live. Imagine the viewership in cities of the bottom teams this year if it was live, instead of already knowing whats done is done and having to sit waiting to see your teams card be revealed.
In years without generational talent there is usually still alot of hype surrounding the top prospects. Lotteries are exciting by themselves, the NHL can always use the media to drum up more interest in a lesser draft year. |

Actually the way it worked, the kept turning over cards in reverse order and as soon as a teams card came up 1 spot later than it should (sooner cause of reverse order) it was over. Not until the second last card. Just being picky with you, but it was boring. They should do it live, but people will still think it is rigged. I will even if buffalo wins, lol

I don't think it's fixed, but I think the odds are horsepoop...20% chance for the worst team to get the best player and improve themselves, thus very unlikely to get that high of a pick for a while (yeah yeah, Edmonton).
Look at the NFL - no lottery and it hasn't exactly turned the perennial losers into powerhouse teams, so I don't see the need. |
