I asked this a week or two ago-- Does anyone still miss KB? It's funny how defensive some people get, but you can't get emotionally attached to players.

The good thing is one more year at most.

Big trip last night after the game, they probably had to travel 20 miles to their next hotel.

It's a tough call but also a good situation to be in.

We talked at the beginniing of the year about the infection youth can have in the dressing room. It can be a 'good' cancer that literally spreads through the room and forces the vets to take notice and play better. We are seeing some of that now.

If Higgins, Matthias, Kassian and Lack are being shopped as said earlier we have options to add an ingredient to solidify a playoff spot.

I still think Benning needs to add that final piece to get us to a solidified PO spot.

LA, SJ and Minny are not going away quietly.

- LordHumungous

I think change motivates youth better than veterans. Guys like Kenins, Horvat, or our D see the arrival of McMillan, Clendenning etc. as a threat to their icetime and try to play harder and smarter. I think another minor add on deadline day would keep that fire going for the stretch run

If the team is playing like they have over the last two weeks , and Bieksa comes back after 2 months off and is going to have his three games of brain farts and it cost us points in a tight race, what do you do?

Very seldom does adding at TDL ever work out. I still hope we are sellers and build draft picks. I would be happy if a minor tweak is done , but nothing much to change the flow.

I would like a number 6 Dman like Despres or Engelland type for when things get out of control and add toughness. A Higgins replacement would be ok too

- VANTEL

I agree with this, it seems like 5 times out of 6 a TDL acquisition fails to gel with the team and is just not worth the price. Despres would be a nice pickup but I don't think the Pens move him. Could end up being a top 4 Dman

Yeah he could develop to be a top 4. Right now he is buried in at 5/6 so now is the time I would take a run at him.

I would make a serious offer starting with Kassian A second and Lack

You can blame Michael Nylander for that. .. And Kevin Lowe. Don't forget Arnott, Weight, Pronger and a few others.

Fair enough and we did witness a Flames 9 game losing streak after their injuries returned so there is something to be said for leaving chemistry alone.

I think we are past the point of acquiring the 'top 6 forward' anyway. I think we waited too long but it appears it won't matter if the team keeps playing tough hockey and improving.

Realistically you are right a 'tweak' may be all that's needed. A depth Dman that plays tough so we can sit Stanton/Weber and possibly Higgins movement. Honestly I can't see Matthias being moved at this point unless Benning thinks his demands will be ridiculous. Higgins isn't scoring but is a pretty big part of the chemistry right now so tough one there too.

After Kassian's 9th scratch I'm willing to bet Benning is listening. If a too good to be true Lack/kassian deal is there that might be the only option other than Richardson which I think we need to move on from him at this point.

Tough decisions ahead with Bonino, Richardson, Bieksa, Edler and Tanev all looking to draw back in soon...but good problems to have too.

I'm not blaming anyone...its (frank)ing cold in the Winter in edmonton, there is no Mountains or Oceans nearby, As a Metropolis its under-rated but still nothing fancy or exciting, and the team stinks.

Did Weight not like Edmonton? He was traded because he was gonna get 9m as a UFA and we couldnt afford it back then.

I remember him asking to leave, but may have been over money.

For all the winning the Oilers did in the 80s, they've made up for it with a whole lot of losing since. That and the city I'm sure have contributed to it. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia I imagine are ugly cities too.

Yes it is but do you think Pitt would go for Higgins and a third?

Having Despres would take care of D for a good number years.

Kassian 9 scratches
Lack 6 wins 6 losses 2 OTL

Edler Tanev
Hamhuis Despres
Biega Clendenning

Stanton Sbisa

Decent 8

Miller keep the Canucks in the game through the 1st period. He let in a Nash breakaway and a tip through a crowd. The St. Louis goal was savable, but St. Louis is a Hall of Famer. He then finished the game going perfect in the shootout. He can't really be called the weak link tonight.

Here's the question , in the last two weeks WD turned on the light switch and Canucks have found their game. Is this team now a contender?

I credit this to injecting new blood and getting rid of old habits. We are finally a team that hits and chases hard ( Kenins, Dorsett, Hansen and now maybe McMillan). That constant pressure doesn't give a team the time to set up properly . Unlike the past teams played us and thought it was going to be a cakewalk. Now they are looking over their shoulders.

The younger faster D with additions of Biega Clendenning COrrado Stanton have been solid adds. They are inexperienced but make up for it in determination, speed , and good preparation. I think we would be perfectly fine over the next year to move out Bieksa.

The question came up last night by Blake Price , do we stay pat or do we go out and look for another part to the puzzle seeing we are playing good hockey?

- VANTEL

This team is no more a contender than it was 2 weeks ago, they are playing really well and are having some surprising contributions from the bottom 6 and call ups. You can't expect Bo to keep scoring on 20% of his shots and Kenins to continue this hotstreak or Biega/Sbisa/Clendening/Weber/Stanton being everyday players.
Right now enjoy the wins and realize the team has a good shot of the playoffs but don't be surprised if/when the team falters again. Ebbs and Flows, I expect to see lots of Tank Pictures in here at some point this season after a few poor games again.

Bieksa is overrated in the media and if the right deal came along I would be all for moving him, I just really doubt he is willing to move on. He brings a lot of nice intangibles to the team and leadership but I don't think it would be too crazy to suggest he is a 5/6 guy at this point of his career.

Hamhuis is a work horse and should be considered the best D we have. He has had a few gaffs but look at the minutes.

I like Despres but I'm not sure he is ready for top 4 right now. His physicality would be a welcome addition fore sure. I definitely think there is a trade to be made with the Pens for a young D-man tho. Dumoulin and Harrington are two very good looking prospects as well as Despres, Pouliot who are a tier above at this point.
