Oh boy, I thought the Jagr idiots were bad, here come the Staal knuckleheads.
Staal has proven he is nothing more than a 3rd line C in Carolina. He wanted to be top 6, got it and can't handle it.
If Carolina takes Sutter and 3 mill in salary then of course. But 6 mill for this guy....6 freaking mill. Oh not to mention we already offered that and he still wanted to leave.
I will always give him credit for some clutch play, but lets be honest he is nowhere near a 6 million dollar player on a team that cannot afford to give out more bad contracts. |

I strongly disagree. I live in Raleigh and go to a fair amount of Canes games. He's still great at being a shutdown center, and we know he can pop in goals as well. I think he's an slightly below average first line center, a good 2nd line center, and an excellent (if not best in the leauge) 3rd line center.
Money is a non-issue. Assuming Sutturd is going back to Carolina, just have to clear a little over $2M.
Would he want to come back here? I don't know, pure speculation...
I think the biggest roadblock is figuring out what Carolina would want from us. Guys with bigger cap hits are older guys they wouldnt be interested in. I'd guess they would want Sutter, one of Harrington/Kapanen/Sundqvist/Bennett, a pick, and maybe a cap dump depending on how the deal is structured. Or maybe drop a Spaling / Scuderi /Kunitz trade as a separate move to free up some space.
I see what Rutherford said as a ploy to see if Staal may actually have interest. Still think this is way more likely to come together at the draft than the TDL. |

Just read an article on the Mantador death. The Chicago something tells of Bettmans actions for protecting the players brains. It says that his death could lead to the elimination of fighting due to the enhanced risks fighting brings to brain injury... Bettman should be held personally accountable for some of the decisions he makes. If it affects his wallet he will change the attitude of some of these players that injure others. - Aussiepenguin

An attorney said that Derek Boogaard's death introduced discussion of fighting with respect to cognitive problems later in players' lives. MDs have diagnosed as much. Time to disallow fighting.

What I am trying to say is that blaming concussions only on fighting is ridiculous. How many concussions occur due to fighting compared to other illegal plays that the NHL don't have a problem allowing.
If they are serious there are other steps to be taken first. If you lose fighting, the Rinaldos & Carcillos of the world will multiply.
Take away dangerous contact all together & you will reduce head injury dramatically. |

Yohe reporting the Penguins are interested in reacquiring Staal. - SuperHenderson13
If Carolina were to retain, say, $1.5 or so of his salary, I'd think about it. Get it down to $4 and you have my attention. That + Doumo would get that deal done.
They want him out of there I gotta believe. Especially if big bro bolts.
I'd rather have Staal at $4.5 than Sutter at anything over $2.75.
Even then, I probably still wouldn't pull the trigger. And I was/am a Staal guy.... |

Nice win. When Horny put that PP goal home, I was like "where has this been"? PP with a purpose. Intensity. Quick puck movement. What it can and should be quite frankly.
Sid had nice jump. That's the dude I want and expect to see. Play like that and I'll stop complaining about him.
Still a bit lose in our own end. Blues missed some good chances.
I thought Lap had a nice game.
Should be interesting tonight. Both teams prob got in at the crack of dawn.

I would Def take stall back. Do what ever it takes to make the cap work. Buy out scuds.....deal sutter....plus cap should be goin up sum.
Good win last night. Only complaint is that they appeared to take foot off the gas pedal there at the end.
Too bad the 3 goal couldn't have been on the powerplay. |

Sid had a lot jump. I was surprised Hitch didn't have Backes against Sid more often considering Backes' s previous success against him. PP look very good lots of puck AND body movement....about time

A considerable difference, especially with Sid. |

Would the Pens have any interest in picking up Chris Neil? Seems like an ingredient they could use. He injured his thumb in his recent fight with Gazic but should be back the 2nd week of March.
What might the Pens give up for him? |

He does have decient skills for a tough guy but $2mil is to much for a 4th liner.

I want Downie back in the lineup. Something might have happened in the dressing room. He's so much better than Sill. He should be on our 3rd line. |

Thinking about staal. If we could send Sutter the otherway, unload Kunitz in the same or another deal I would be down for it. I'm not down on Kunitz but Staal would help the team more than kuni.
Perron-Sid-Horn
Comeau-Malkin-Bennett
Spaling-Staal-Downie
Farnsy-Lappy-Adsy
or you could
Perron-Sid-Horn
Comeau-Malkin-Staal
Bennett-Spaling-Downie
The fourth line.
or
Comeau-Staal-Malkin.
Not to mention Staal is a great PKer. |

It could be hes a little banged up and needed a rest instead of back to back games. I wouldn't look to far into it. |

Staal huh?
He would help, but maybe only this year. Perron needs resigned, I think Maata and Despress would be up for new deals. That might make it tight. Shipping off Kuni as part of the deal leaves a hole in the top 6, and possibly the 3rd line the next year. If they could unload Sutter and Scuds then I guess why not. |

I just can't imagine a trade where Sutter goes back to CAR for Staal. Does Staal have any movement clause? |

Id do DP sutter for staal straightup. DP has shown he might be really good, but has also shown he isn't helping win a cup this year. |
