Richards would still be band-aid and we should not want him for 5 more years or however long his deal is....even at $3M
- YouMeAndDupuis9

I wouldn't underestimate Leadership. I'd rather have Richards and Bergenheim on our 3rd line than what we currently have.

Perron still ends up here but instead Sutter goes the other way along with probably our 3rd. MacT wanted Sutter....but we'd still gave our first
- willi

Doubt it, other teams have other 1st rounders and better players to offer than Sutter.

So, a third line player can't be a captain? Got it. His leadership is invaluable. Sid should learn a thing or two from Dupes. He is the best leader on this team.
- Oneonta Penguin

You have no idea what Dupes leadership potential is and what he means to the rest of the team. This is 100% assumption.

How do you know MacT wanted Sutter? If he did and GMJR didn't do it, that was pure stupidity.

Seriously, they would have 3+mil in cap to make another move if they could have made that one.

MacT is an idiot, but I don't think he is that dumb. If they included Sutter, I'd imagine they would have had to include another asset (which I probably would have happily done just to get rid of Sutter). Who would want to pay $3.3m/yr to a 4th line quality player?

Yeah assuming the Pens could have had Perron for Sutter instead of a 1st is the POTD.

And to think he got $3.3M from us because he supposedly had 2nd line C potential.

hey you can go back and check on the rumours at the time. The oilers wanted a center bad and Sutters name was the 1 that come up. And Perron wasn't exactly lighting it up in Edmonton plus he basically called out their old coach Eakins.

I knew nothing of Sutter's play when they made the trade, but he's not good. I wish they could replace him somehow, but I don't know if anyone is interested in him.

$50 says Goc gets the game winner today.

In the contract negotiations he was compared to Anisimov, which is why his money/yr is very close to Anisimov's. Can you believe that? Coincidentally, Anisimov is the player that was targeted by MacTavish for Perron. I also know from listening to Dallas Eakins on his appearance on TSN, that the team began using analytics heavily this year. Another reason I seriously doubt Sutter would be a target.

It's obvious to the fans and to some of the media but apparently it's not obvious to the coaches and management who know the game 100x better than the fans and the media.

When everyone outside of the small circle of coaches realizes there are so many problems with the lineup and personnel, it's not even close to them being smarter than the rest of us. I'd argue the opposite.

As much as I think many of us would like that, there are 2 issues I see.
1) Toronto will back up the Brinks truck and any other armored car company it can acquire to pay Babcock
2) Given the disarray and instability of the Pens' franchise, why would Babcock want to come here? He is looking at a team that could potentially be either blown up or substantially altered by the time he would take over.

I'd love to see it, but it is very hard for me to believe this would actually happen

- Amanion

Babcock has a better chance of going to the Blues than the pens imho though I doubt he ends up in either place. Having said that, I'd be happy if he ended up in either place.

Looking forward to an entertaining game tonight.

IDK, hes won cups, gold medals, I could also see him taking over for Red at UM, and living the rest of his career low key.

GMJR needs to move Kuni, PM and Sutter. I understand PM is a win now guy then let him walk but too much of that has gone on over the last 5 years and as a result... No depth, no roll over of talent.

Trade PM to ANA for Etem/2nd round pick. Etem takes Kuni spot and provides young legs.

Trade Kuni to VAN for Mattias/mid round pick. This forces sill/Adams out for good.

Trade Sutter to TOR for Polak/late pick. Body moving Dman to play PK/shutdown role.

Pens aquire picks for a deep upcoming draft and get fresh legs/depth/help now.

That also frees up a ton of cap space and adds assets to make a push for JJ if need be.

I know that we (me included) have spent most of the past week complaining about how bad things are, but I honestly don't think that the problems are as big as they seem right now.

If the power play gets some shots through, that automatically gets better. If there is a little line shifting and the top six scores some goals, then that gets a lot better.

A couple of tactical adjustments, and some puck luck, and this team is right back where we thought it was... A playoff team with a weak bottom six.

It's not like things are unfixable, and with maybe some roster tinkering before the deadline, it can be even better than that.

Without a TON of luck, this team isn't winning the Cup, but with how the East is, this team could make it to the conference finals. The Rangers, Islanders and Caps are all running pretty well right now, but that will change... Those aren't perfect teams/rosters, and like any team, they will have some injuries and tough times too.

It all comes down to how healthy a team is, and how they are playing in April, not what is going on in February.

I mentioned the deal about Kunitz to WPG for Frolik +

What about Kunitz to Anaheim for Maroon/Silfverberg/Etem + Rakell/Noessen ? Any deal there make sense?

If we would avoid metro teams in the playoffs, honestly, we are a solid favorite to win the cup. We are doing great against every other division but the metro.

I see both happening with the trade deadline being the small trade and the draft trade being more substantial.
