What has O'Reilly done? Had one good year?

He's on the block for a reason

- sbroads24

That is crazy. O'reilly has done light years more than Grigorenko so far in his career. He's also on the block because the team will have trouble affording him with the upgrade in D that they need. If you are going to call a guy a malcontent because he wants to be paid, than the league is filled with them as they exist on every team.

I get where you are coming from. I think we all do, to varying degrees.

Here's what it sounds like to me: don't trade any of the prospects unless they are easy throwaways because we should see what they turn out to be, and don't make trades unless it's either a clear win or at worst an even deal.

Problem is deals are sometimes going to be needed where you might lose due to the players you the GM deem as vital to have on your team for now and the future, and that is how Murray likely looked at the Jets deal.

If I were the GM, I would have held as firm as humanly possible on keeping the 1st round pick out of that deal due to the quality of this draft. Murray didn't agree. So be it.

Also, the key time to trade prospects to obtain maximum value is when they are prospects.

Your idea of Darwin's Theory regarding prospects is fine, and I can see waiting to trade a quality young player who is doing at least moderately well in the NHL for an even better player, like Kane.

As much as you point out what if Murray is wrong about Armia, Lemiuex, and Grigorenko, there is a chance he is right about all of them as well. What are the odds of Murray being wrong or right? Impossible to say. Predicting the future for players that are not A+ prospects is very, very tricky.

To avoid any Bill Murray references I can no longer comment on the Jets trade, but as far as ROR I wasn't comparing him to Grigorenko, at least not intentionally. My point is that we keep talking about players with red flags.

O'Reilly is a solid 2 way player, but he isn't great offensively. He's adequate. Grigorenko potentially is a better producer.

What's easier to find, a good two way forward or a guy with the natural skill of Grigorenko ?

Yeah, I get they have to spend a certain amount of the settlement on these ads but they are really terrible.

We all know the risks as we all have loved ones taken because of the disease.

Speaking for myself, I don't need it crammed down my throat(no pun intended) during every other commercial break.

Feel free to comment on whatever you like with me.

There are no red flags with O'Reilly other than him wanting to get paid, and as I said there are a ton of players like that.

That said, it's also why I trade virtually nothing for him unless it's an outright steal and simply try to sign him when he is a UFA. If I cannot, move on to the next option.

Based on what I think of Grigorenko, I would rather have O'Reilly because I believe while Grigorenko is talented, he is going to likely need to play the wing if he is in the NHL unless they move Girgensons to the wing, and I don't believe his skating will ever be at a level that will allow him to make the plays his talent allows him to make. He'll always be a step behind due to his skating, but that is only IMO.

Personally, I always believed more in Filip Forsberg than Grigorenko.

I also believe in O'Reilly much more than Erat.

I do get your point.

There are red flags depending on the cost to acquire him.

If you are giving up a package including a 1st for a guy that has eclipsed 50 points or 20 goals once I'll say that's a red flag.

Now I know he wouldn't be here to necessarily score goals, but again you can find the 2 way players through the draft/free agency and not have to lose assets for them

It might explain why they've been back and forth on this for a while now. It sounds like they're asking Murray for something(s) that he's just un willing to give up.

You're entire theory misunderstands the law of supply and demand. We have an oversupply of prospects - and more coming - with a high demand for NHL proven talent. This - of necessity - devalues prospects and inflates the value of proven talent.

Who was 32 years old at the time of the trade. Not a comparable player in age or ability to O'Reilly nor is Grigorenko ever going to be as good as Forsberg even though they were only taken one spot apart inn the same draft.

Depends on the prospect vs the NHL talent.

It's not all NHL talent >>>>Prospects

Is Sam Reinhart devalued because we are drafting McEichel? I'd like to think no

I remember watching the draft and he kept sliding.

Was really hoping Washington took Gringo and allowed us to take Forsberg.

Oh well.

I know, it's just so ridiculous and hypocritical. The odds of something bad happening to you young from smoking are small. The commercial way overshoots the mark. Then they are followed by alcohol an fast food commercials, as if those are just fine.
