only way that changes is if we end up picking third in the draft. if we get that center that we want, not sure where grigo fits going forward. cant see murray wanting 3 scoring lines on principle, nevermind that we dont have one scoring line now. since he would have to clear waivers next year, moving him to the wing seems like a lot to ask.

I think it has a lot to do with Nolan sending a message that effort gets rewarded. The same applies to Gionta getting more ice time than player X. It's a message to the young guys. Is it working? Don't know. But I'm ok with the approach - for now.

He also said that he was lucky that Kane was hurt when we traded for him. It really makes you wonder why he hasn't leaned on Nolan about his goaltending choices.

As you said, the team doesn't have one scoring line now, let alone the dream of having 3.

I think the days of having a strictly checking 3rd line are all but completely over.

You need scoring depth to win, and that means you need a 3rd line that can score. Is it a bonus if they can shut down the opposing team's top players? Sure. Is it more valuable if your 3rd line scores at such a rate that it forces the other teams top D and top players on the ice more to combat that, opening up easier opposition for the top two lines? ABSOLUTELY.
