McCann is going to be what salvages the Kesler trade. He isn't going in The Package.
Hansen just reserved his spot in The Package though. - KB3Point0
His play reminds me of Logan Couture, but in his + 1 season he's blowing Couture out of the water.

Vey, Richardson, and Higgins will be the odd men out. - kaptaan
You think the team moves on from Vey after acquiring him for Garrison basically? I haven't always liked Vey's game but I doubt he is one of the players gone. Also only need to move 2.
Richardson and Higgins I could see being moved but part of me feels like it will be Kassian and Hansen because they have more value. |

Cotoure: 51 GP 58 P
McCann: 50 GP 72 P - Gullzy
To be fair, Couture played on a weak team compared to McCann. Couture and Jamie McGinn were the only PPG guys on Ottawa that year.
McCann is one of 7 PPG+ guys on SSM. |

2 completely different teams.
Sault St. Marie is practicly an all-star team, and the Ottawa 67's were an under .500 team in that season.

Fair enough. Just to be clear, I think it's very impressive that McCann has been able to score at a rate similar (greater) than Logan Couture; who is one of the better younger players in the game. Considering that he started the season late because of illness just makes me that much more excited. |

SSM is geared up for a run at the OHL championship, 7 guys over PPG is amazing. That's a whole first PP unit plus 2 extra guys. Must be a fun team to follow. |

I agree, we should definitely be excited. Just hoping that his game translates well to the pros. |

Getting back some injured D will be key, I'm not sure that the team has missed Bonino and Richardson as much as I would of thought. I think Benning will have to move at least one forward before the deadline as there is no way Kennis or Horvat can be brought back out. I would say the same for Kassian but that is too hard to predict.
Sedin Sedin Vrbata Burrows Kennins Horvat Dorsett Bonino Vey are all here to stay imo.
Higgins Matthias Richardson Kassian Hansen left to fill 3 spots, who do you keep ? - belcherbd

It would be good to get back a 3rd rounder for this year's draft.
We lost ours in the Kesler Trade.

But we were defending President's Trophy champs that season! Couldn't sacrifice that... |

Ya, but even at that point everyone would see that we were doing what Calgary already did. "We have our core that can win the cup, lets not do anything big". Then BLAMMO we got annihilated in post season |

Not quite sure about McAnn, but I know that Couture was and always has been a 200 foot player (even back in junior). And he has translated that game fairly flawlessly into the pros. I bet you didn't know he is in the very top of the league in terms of blocked shots by forwards? (this year 54 and counting and last year 68 ). That shows you defensive commitment.
Lastly, Couture did end up with 87 points his second year in Ottawa |

Yup was a great article, can't remember who interviewed him but was really interesting......wonder if Tor got a really good guy in Dubas. They will likely fire him to cover Nonis's ass and blame it on fancy stats. - belcherbd
If it did play out like that, I certainly wouldn't mind having an advanced stats guy like that in the Canucks head office... Dir. of Scouting? |

Trading Kassian isn't going to happen at the TDL. He should still get some more time to develop before writing him off as another Jim Sandlak. Maybe Benning will see what he can squeeze out of other teams with pending UFA's like Mathias or Dorsett. I don't think much will happen for the Nucks at the deadline. - Beachcomber
Dorsett isn't going anywhere, he's vital if we make the playoffs... |

What would be the point in trading Kassian?! He's on a roll for us and nothing he would bring back would have the upside or push us over the top at this point... And trading Mathias would just be insane to me considering how he's played for us this.. I would think the canucks brass would be looking at an extension not a trade - MaWLz

Not sure there would be much downside to trading him too be honest, unless he manages to develop into a better player...something which I'm not 100% sure is going to happen. Apart from his recent roll, he's had a disastrous season. Maybe better to let his recent roll snowball into a better return now...but I agree it's a bit of a crapshoot.
Do you think Matthias has played great? He's had some games but not sure an upgrade couldn't be found elsewhere...I like his game, but he hasn't finished that well. He's a big body though and has gotten a little hot recently so again, you might be able to stock the cupboards with some picks or trade for a better player who wants out of a non-playoff team... - Ronning4ever

I would keep both Matthias & Kassian for their size, age and upside potential. Get rid of the NTC's of the older core. |
