Don't think Vey is going anywhere. |

SSM is geared up for a run at the OHL championship, 7 guys over PPG is amazing. That's a whole first PP unit plus 2 extra guys. Must be a fun team to follow. - Nucker101
Closest OHL team to me. I may catch a playoff game if I get the time. |

Probably, yeah that was a great article. Their GM was Kyle Dubas who is now an assistant GM with TOR. He mentioned that his advanced stats(shooting percentage, zone entries, usage by coach) suggested that he had more upside to his game than what he had showed last year. - Nucker101
I've been a fan of the McCann pick over the Virtanen pick since the draft. I still wish we'd taken Nylander. |

Nylander has had an amazing draft+1 season so far, and I know Virtanen's been hot and cold this year but I read back on Twitter about a couple of weeks ago that he's among the league leaders in the WHL in points per 60 minutes. With the way the NHL is slowly trending back towards lower the scoring, more physical, less finesse style of play, especially in the playoffs I think size and speed will matter big time so I can live with the pick even though Ehlers was my #1 choice, Virtanen was #2 for me. |

Again, time will tell. I just felt Nylander was possibly the most talented guy in the draft. |

I agree with all but Matthias as well. If he can be signed for 2.5-3.75 for 2-5 I'm keeping him. I'm sure I'll get flamed but I'd only move him if it were for a first. Not very many second rounders amount to players of his caliber and size. Seems like they are a bit of a weird currency right now. 2nd or a 3rd would be fine for Higgins / Hansen although I like Kenins Horvat Hansen as a third line. I'd move Higgins and possibly Vey if a second could be had for either. |

Possibly, if NHL scoring was the way it was 3-4 years ago I would have wanted Nylander. But when the whistles get put away and they start playing "good ole fashioned playoff hockey" I want the stronger/faster team. It's definitely nice to have a Gaudreau/Kane type as well, but only if they're surrounded by some big/strong/fast players to compliment them.
As you said, time will tell though. I definitely am happy with both first round selections, if anything it was the rest of the draft that was a bit disappointing for me. Forsling turned out to be a good value pick and liked what Benning did by flipping him for Clendening. But I'm sceptical about the rest(Tryamkin, Petit, Stewart). I also don't like drafting goalies high, but Demko looks decent. |

I get the bigger, faster, stronger mantra. You yourself have said on many occasions that you can't coach skill however. I'm OK with the draft, just not sold that Virtanen was the right pick at #6. I do think the McCann pick helped salvage the draft.
I'm OK with the Demko pick too.
This year I hope we snag a Dman or two early. |

Haven't had a D in round 1 in a decade (Luc Bourdon). |

Trade Richie, Higgins and mattias (unless he signs before TDL at <2.6MM). We need Hansen for the 4th line. McMillan is fine as a 13th forward. I'd like and extra 2nd as well as a replacement 3rd for this draft.
This way we load up on picks, get younger, create cap flexibility and still ice a competitive lineup for the postseason. |

Yes, and we've been fortunate with our top 4. However, we haven't had a dominating Dman.......ever? |

I agree, high end skill is very hard to find and IMO should be the priority with a top 10 pick. I'm not so sure I buy that size trumps skill. I still think hot goaltending is usually the biggest factor during the playoffs.
Virtanen is a good pick and is having a good year but both ehlers and nylander are having incredible seasons.

I don't understand the Demko pick except Benning saw him play a lot and liked him. We will almost be lucky to get a 2nd for Lack or Markstrom, seems too high a pick to use on Demko or any goalie. |

Having watched the goalie carousels of the past I'll disagree. We've just been fortunate to have some stability in net the past while and that was mostly brought by a top pick in the draft. |
