I don't think it works that way anymore. I think they wanted to "enhance" divisional rivalries by making them play each other in the playoffs. The only crossover in round one is where a wild card team could potentially play the top team in the other division.

Which means, Canucks would play the Kings in round 1 if they finish 2 & 3...
