Hard to call somebody a bust when only Gillis ever had any expectations for him. I could see him being a bottom 6 player in two seasons which is pretty good for an overager. NEVER draft an over age player in the first few rounds. But yes, he has looked very mediocre

The D prospects we have. Don't see any being a top 2 D but who would of thought that of Tanev. We may have a few players similar to hamhuis. I wouldn't mind. The upcoming draft is where we should be picking a couple extra D. Tons of good young D. If Van gets a pick that's 20-30 I would trade it to someone for 2 second round picks.

I don't think they'll get a good return so I'd keep him personally. But he needs to really get his poop together defensively and stop over-thinking when he's in his own zone or at center ice, make the simple play when there's nothing there.

That's what I was trying to say yesterday as well... What would be the point in trading him at this point. We would literally get nothing of value most likely.. So why not just ride it out with the kid.. Especially when he has flashes of what he can be like..

Defensive d-men in the NHL are almost always guys who produced in junior/college. It's extremely rare, almost impossible for a low scoring junior player to become an NHL regular. NHL grinders were offensive players in junior who adjusted their games to make it.
