He was fired cause he had a chance to build a team and failed. They werent going to let him try to build another. - zdp1189

He was finally tearing it down. Then was fired.
Trust me, I wanted him and Lindy gone 5 years ago. But he was fired for tanking.
This isn't be sticking up for him, it's just the facts - sbroads24
The only fact is that DARCY had 15 years (3 different owners to be a YES Man). He loved his core players to much and to long! Fact |

Agreed, but the fact is Pegula and Regeir were on the same page as far as rebuilding goes. That started with moving Pominville/Vanek and not signing any UFA's in 2013 |

I agree. He was still purposely tanking |

Im not. But he was known for scraping together mediocre teams that finished 7th-11th. Not last. Being 30th was his plan too - sbroads24
How long was he around for? 16-17 years, and out of the playoffs for 3-4 years? I lost track. Enough is enough, sometimes you need new eyes and thoughts to build a team especially when a guy was given that much time and got you nowhere |

Yea I don't disagree with his firing at all. Just saying that the rebuild was in motion under Regier too |

Maybe Neuvirth will be going out somewhere and Subban will be coming in from Boston but I will be surprised if TM goes out of his way to sign Enroth in the summer. He hasn't looked very good in Dallas yet, is small which isn't TM's type goalie but I could be wrong. - GilPerreault11
Which is why he wasn't extended.
However, he was traded BC he played so well for us that other teams valued him.
While I'm sure Murray doesn't see him as a franchise goalie, he could be a guy that holds down the fort until one of our young guys is ready, or until he can bring in our goalie of the future |

I can't believe someone is arguing for Darcy Regier here before the trade deadline. How ironic. |

He's not arguing for him. Just saying that the plan had been put in motion already. |

If that were the case, they would have fired him before 2013-2014 began. They fired him because they had a PR nightmare on their hands, and it's exactly why guys like LaFontaine and Nolan were brought here. |

Purposely? He was fired because he had 15 "freakin Matt Ellis years" and couldn't deal with filling needs, signing the right players!
Peca & Hasek trades were deplorable!
Briere/Drury - nothing more to say!
Forced into Vanek deal
Soupy deal - never prepared himself for that situation
Trade deadline deals - Corkum, Zubrus and others were B/C type of moves!
He built this team for years around his personality - soft (see Lucic hit on Miller). Since that hit the Sabres organization has never been the same IMO |

He's walking a fine line, started out with how TM likes to deal assets, they were Darcy assets and well whatever. Yes, Darcy started the tank. |

Darcy had a shade under 2 decades here and did nothing, murderers get less time. Cup winning coaches get less time. |

Neither statement is false though.
Regier's plan was to tank, and it was put in motion the day Pominville and Gaustad were traded.
Murray has shown that he is willing to pay a steep price to get the guy or guys he really wants. |

I don't think anyone is arguing for Darcy... GMTM came in here with a cupboard full of prospects and top draft picks. So he was given a lot of the tools to go forward and now its up to him to build this team. The Kane trade was the big start of that.
I'll give TM 3 years to show what he has. Only thing that I'd can him for is if we don't finish last. That was the goal and anything other than the top 2 picks is a fail. That might be extreme but oh well. |

You said getting rid of Darcy's trash. My point is that most of this core will be his supposed "trash"
I'm not advocating for Darcy Regier |

TM likes to deal assets..Darcy produced 80% of this team's assets etc.
No problem, it's all good |
