Oh I will. Will suck watching them be bottom feeders for 3 more years though until all our guys are good and not just 18-20 year olds

I think it's just the skewed view of some. I think if said player doesn't make the NHL right away the way many of the top picked teens have in recent years that he somehow is less than. You know what I'm saying? I don't necessarily agree with that sentiment |

still much building to do. Not all elite/franchise players come from the first 3 picks

Could he have'd stayed? Yes
Was it better for him to go and work on some things to come in next season stronger?
Yes as it was probably for the best rather suffer through all of this. |

Of course there is. May take us a long time though. Took 7 years after LA took kopitar to win. we can still trade some of our picks the next 3-4 years. I didn't really want to wait 7 years though :/ |

oh yea.....I completely agree with you. He could've handled it but let's be honest he needed to hit weights and put on some McMuscle....lol. didn't do him any good to stay here, lose and play on the 4th line, let alone burn a year of his ELC. The right play was to go back to Kootenay, win, lead, play in the WJC and work on getting bigger.

Difference is we have a defense that is ahead of the LA curve IMO. |

Risto is no doughty. LA had great defense too. If zadorov, risto McCabe pysk ALL pan out then we should be in good shape. None of them have proven much yet (although I have high hopes for risto) |

My point was you stated it took LA 7 years after Kopitar. Well Doughty came 3 years later.
Risto and Zads came in 13, Reinhart came in 14.
IMO we are ahead of the LA timeline.
I'm also gonna go on a limb but Zads reminds me of a young Pronger. Not saying that he is the next Pronger. Just he plays a similar game. Hartford ran Pronger out of town and the franchise ended up in Carolina. It would be a mistake to do that with Zads IMO. |

take the Isles for example. ... good young Core. Tavares, Nelson, Lee, Okposo, Neilsen, Bailey, Hamonic, De Haan, etc. They prolly should've made some trades and signings sooner. I think Garths job being on the line and not wanting to give up a top 5 pick helped facilitate it but. They added 2 depth scorers (UFAs Grabovski/Kulemin), 2 Dmen from trades with teams in Cap Jail (Leddy/Boychuk) & a solid goaltender UFA Halak. .
I think the Sabres are in their way, if not ahead of plans implemented by the Isles/Kings etc. Girgensons, Moulson, Reinhart, Ennis, Kane, Ristolainen, Zadorov, Pysyk, McCabe, & Bogosian. Hopefully McEichel. I Don't think it'll be 7 years. If we follow the Isles blueprint and sign a couple depth players and/or trade for some decent young talent from teams in Cap Jail we could be making noise in the playoff a couple years out. For me the biggest question mark is finding our next tender. |

Everyone acts like we are "ahead of curve" because we were are only team with players already. LA had players too. Something you may not know, LA had THREE 1sts in the loaded 2003 draft. Then drafted in the top 5 THREE times after drafting kopitar. They had players and picks too. Still took them a while. without mcheichel you guys just don't realize how long and far away we are. What players are gonna help us not be a bottom feeder in the next two years without mcheichel? Then two more years until risto and Reinhart really are "game changers" *maybe*. We are in year 4 before we are really competing for playoffs already let alone a cup. Can we get lucky sure. 40 years of Sabres history says that's not gonna happen |

Not with that attitude.
Brian Boyle 26th and Jeff Tambellini 27th were/are nothing special and the players they got via moving them did nothing for them either. Oh and both were taken over Corey Perry 28th.
I still like Reinhart's chances better than some. |

I do like Reinhart I was very happy to get him. Showing busts on there team just shows there is gonna be some on our end too. not every pick we make or made is gonna turn out perfect. maybe hanafin can be doughty. That would def help when we miss out on mceichel
