Not sure how McKeown has done this year but a 1st + 2nd (with one year's maturing) is a pretty sweet bit of business for a pending UFA.
Well, there's absolutely no chance we tempt ARI for Yandle now. - AlexF
No kidding, if a 1st and a pretty good prospect gets you Sekera, even if its going to be a late 1st, what does it take to get Yandle or even Phaneuf??
Benning, trade Bieksa!!!! |

Makes for a boring deadline day - manvanfan
There is still some pretty big deals to be had. Monday could still be fun watching every GM going in dry on Nonis. |

He has been on this team. - AlexF
It still doesn't make him a number one or two D man. I would accept that he is close but not there yet. |

He plays on the canucks first pairing line of edler and Tanev. - manvanfan
Hamhuis and Edler are better than him. It is like calling Higgins a top 6 forward because he plays on the second line here. |

Toronto is eating minimum of 1 million of Phaneuf's salary......
Guy is not that good.

If only beiksa wasn't injured I wonder if they would have done the same deal. - pker2theend
The good news is, we will be able to add a similar D-man, named Bieksa, without giving up any assets.
Most playoff teams are looking for a Bieksa or a Richardson to bolster their depth.
Our kids have proven their worth at their worth at the NHL level so we get to add a couple of desirable, veteran depth players without giving up any futures.
We've weathered the injury storm on the backs of our prospects, so guys getting healthy will basically equal anything we would have added at the deadline.
I expect "trader Jim" to stand Pat, in honour of Mr Quinn.
At the draft we can move a goalie, then decide on which UFAs to re-sign.
Matthias, Richardson and Dorsett should all sign here for less than market value because Big Willie D loves them an will give them a bigger role than any other playoff bound team provide when July1 rolls around.
They all fit well in this system, but don't stand out enough to get crazy offers on the open market.

For sure. He'll probably land around the Bieksa/Hamhuis cap hit (4.6m). |

Shhhh!! Higgins is a top 6 forward, very much worth a 2nd and prospect. Yeah thats the ticket. Dont let the other teams know he is anything but, as overpayment is an option it seems this year

Not if we have to retain half of Higgins salary and cap hit. |

I would if we are trading current day Bieksa for Sharp of 3 years ago. |

Perhaps if we were a clear cut contender, but picking up a high priced 33 year old at this point would be risky and redundant. |

Chicago is going to make a massive trade.
They are going to get a top 6 forward to fill the void left by kane.
Then Kane returns in time for the playoffs where there isn't a salary cap.

JB stated no top picks n prospects r getting moved. Asking prices for a Yandle etc do not make sense for us. No big trades coming IMO. |

Sharp's got 2 seasons left after this one (Bieksa has 1) and can produce without question. If we could flip Bieksa for a promising young player of course we'd go with that option but, right here and now, having Bieksa on this team vs Sharp is a no brainer for me on which would help this team and the young guys out more. |

With that rational i would tend to agree but his 6 million dollar salary is the thing that turns me off. |
