How much different is this than other franchises? I doubt that any of them act in a vacuum, some maybe just a little more apt to pull the trigger quicker. - TheTrob
I think there are a number of GMs with more latitude than Bowman. I really do. Just the nature of how the Hawks run things and the number of suits in the room at any given time. |

What are you suggesting? - paulr
The concept that winning a single game is the best retribution for teams assaulting Hawk skill players is wrong.
Petrovic's hit was not vicious or malicious; but every year Hawk skills players are being hurt partly because there is no fear or retribution. This is why, according to reports, players asked StanBo before camp to sign someone to protect. The best Bowman could do was get Carbomb and he is too small for the task. |

I can see Shaw getting dealt JJ. How about you? Hartman and Ross...both with slightly more size knocking on the door--though Hartman is further away of the two IMO - grinder10
Ross is listed at approximately 6' 180 lbs, but I swear to God he doesn't weigh that much. I love his physical game, but like Nordstrom, sometimes the hits he puts on other players are lacking in force. Somebody needs to buy the kid a couple of crave cases at White Castle. He could use another 10 to 15 lbs on his frame. |

I don't see why we can't make a trade that works for us this year and into the future. The other day I suggested we try trading Sharp and a 1st and/or a prospect to Florida for Gudbranson and maybe a prospect. Florida gets their scorer plus futures and we get an up and coming defenseman who I see as a top 4 in the mold of a Seabrook. He could slot in the top four right away or at least replace Rozsival as our 5th d-man. Gudbranson's cap hit through 2016-17 is $2.5M and by that that time we should be in position to sign him to a long term contract (he will be a RFA).
This is just one trade possibility as an example of how one can make things work for two teams looking at improving themselves now and into the future. Come Stan, think outside the box if you can.... - FourOrr
Dude Dale Tallon is not trading his future Captain and 1st round D-man who is having his best year and will only get better. Guddy is part of the core for years to come. He's an untouchable along with Bjugstad and Barkov. |

Not arguing tred, cuz I don't know a lot on the topic beyond that there are a variety of factors, not least of which is the Saudis keeping production high. I have seen oil jump then drop and now gas seems to be settling about $2.30 a gallon. Thoughts? - John Jaeckel
To many variables to guess what will happen long run. But outside of war or unrest in an oil producing country I would expect oil to find a new normal a little higher then current prices. Of course that is to assume that demand does not pick up significantly but the recent ability to find supply through fracking and other means should keep oil prices suppressed for a while.
Some interesting things that can change that:
- at current prices most fracking operations do not work
- other more expensive means of producing oil are also unfeasible which is why so many companies are cutting projects and cutting work force
- prices go up and these options open back up so it should force oil to remain in a somewhat tighter range
- if prices remain down lots of small operations will go out of biz and that could cause a spike in prices in the future but hard to say exactly the impact
- must consider catastrophies that could cause an impact
Just a sample of some of the things to consider without even getting into currency manipulation by cnetral banks and other areas.
So in summary who the F knows. But I would be shocked to see oil its previous levels without something very significant happening in the world. |

Gotcha
Well, there are a lot of dressing room issue rumors out there right now. If this is true and goes with one rumor in particular, it would explain some things. And I think you could bet on one particular guy being gone in the next 72 hours or so. |

who knows man, media guys have connections in high places with members of other pro sports team front offices
remember, Boomer Esiason was the first person to break the Ryan Callahan for MSL trade |

JJ,
I always find the prospect situation interesting with the Hawks. When is a guy considered "NHL ready"? I know it's not all skill, and that personality and mind set is also a factor. But some of these guys have played multiple years for the Hogs and have developed significantly, yet, they don't get the call up. While someone like TT, who management has even said needs to stay at the AHL level to develop his North American game and get bigger, etc., continues to be recalled.
I know not everyone is a Lindros and can come into the league with the size and skill, but at what point do you start giving these other guys who have paid their dues (so to speak) a chance? It feels like a lot of these guys' names and the hype we hear about them always fades away and they get lost in the minors.

The amount signed for is not my argurment. Him being short sighted while signing other contracts is. If you don't see that then I am not sure how to explain it.
For the record my previous employment was negotiating contracts. And while it wasn't for pro athletes there remain some similarities when dealing with tight budgets. - Vark37
What other contracts was he short sighted on? |

I think that with all these locker room rumors swirling, there has to be some validity. I mean, look at the evidence, albeit anectodal, rumors of things with Reif's wife, rumors with affairs, rumors with Sharp, rumors with Crow, rumors of Toews going to management, rumors of a fight now?
I think the key is ascertaining what the common denominators are and assuming the rest is BS. |
