Yes...But still an indication to me there were no takers on Clarkson...

and with good reason - nobody should be surprised there were no takers

I'm not dealing Saad for him. I'll pass.

Anyone suggesting Saad for Cammaleri should have their heads examined.

Correct. Pretty sure he's had at least two. I almost think I'd pass on him either way though. He's tremendously talented don't get me wrong but he's basically Kane Lite or TT 2-3 years from now. Hard to say no to adding an All Star caliber talent (when healthy) but also easy to say no when you're already a relatively undersized team as it is.
- daaaahawks

Yeah we really don't need anymore smallish highly skilled perimeter players. We have TT who is basically like Kane light and smurf sized and everything. We need some bigger players who can be physical and wear down opposing blueliners in a playoff series.

Yeah, he's missed about a month in 2011-12, a couple of weeks in 2013, and then about a week into this season iirc. He's pretty good at avoiding hits in general, but then when it happens, it always seems to be his head.

He's not producing at his normal pace this year either, but he's still almost a .7 PPG player on a bad team. I also just like how he plays.

Given, Skinner is an interesting player. However, the idea of concussions coupled with his cap hit for the next four seasons, and the drop off in production this season would make me leery in acquiring Skinner.

If the Skinner/Cammalleri talk is sincere, Stan is probably playing chicken to lower the asking price for Vermette, which in all likelihood is market accurate, but too rich for Mr. Potter.

I predict a swing and a miss on Vermette, and its back to AHL and washed up veteran deals.

Dude just has zero history of leaving the trunk of the tree. Maybe we will be surprised....

But I doubt it

And the Leafs have more than anyone! If there isn't a bullet left in Shanahan's gun for Nonis I'd be shocked! He basically threw $30M down the toilet.

Clarkson's contract was so bad that the Leafs could not even buy it out - too many bonus clauses and other details that no way another team would trade it for a live skating body. Will probably find out that the Loafs are retaining part of the salary.

Who's up next - Kessel, Dion, JVR, Lupul?

Any of them are available for Stanley.

Let's see how many people want to shoot me with this comment. THE BLACKHAWKS DO NOT HAVE ANY SURE THINGS IN THE MINORS !!!!! As it was so adeptly pointed out in this article...drafting has been more of a failure than it has been a success. Most of the time...remember I said MOST of the time, when you pick in the top 3 you will get a quality player (Kane Toews)...occasionally you will find a diamond in the rough (Saad) in the later rounds but more often than not...in Chicago at least, the sure fire NHL player that is drafted is nothing more than a plug in at best. Losing Kane not only means NO STANLEY CUP this year but also the Cap issues mean NO CUPS for a while until the proper role players are found.

Clarkson trade shows how difficult it is to move a big salary player who underperforms.
- Al

If you're trying to compare Clarkson to Sharp, that's kind of silly imo. Clarkson has never reached the 50 point mark in his career and has had two seasons in a row of 25 points or less, only 11 last year. Sharp has had 5 50+ seasons, has a .89 PPG in his last two seasons, and is coming off a 78 point season. On top of that, Clarkson is signed for 5 more years while Sharp only has 2. They are not comparable.

If you're comparing to Bickell, then you have a more valid point, though the length of the contracts plus the difference in their post-season points suggest Bickell > Clarkson too.

Opening cap space may allow the Leafs to use their cap space to take on bad contracts for a fee.

The most valuable thing the Leafs have for the Hawks is cap space to park one of their contracts.

No, it's been reported it is a straight up trade. TOR gets to put Horton on LTIR for the cap relief, CLB gets a player they are paying $ for who can actually suit up and play for them.

Looking at cap hits, Cammarelli is signed through 2019 at 5 mil per. Skinner same year 5.75. Neither a rental. What is going on..... As for Saad, if he were one of the pieces and BOTH players were to come here, I would seriously consider it.

Eh, no. Saad > Skinner first off, and I like the kid. They don't have the cap room to sign both those guys anyway. They can take back maybe one $5m contract, at most. If they take a guy with term back, they'll be def dumping some guys and/or looking to flip them in the off-season.
