Can a team keep up to half a cap hit and have a different salary amount retained?
Eg; Team A retains 100,000 cap hit and team B pays all salary?
OR Team A retains 100,000 cap hit and pays 100,000 in salary - Joe-snoopy-Cool

I'm a supporter. I think a regional Sask (Regina/Saskatoon) team would easily work.
But not in Bettman's lifetime. |

For the record I was for Bowman resigning Bickel, as well as Sharp....AlthoughSharp was a hefty deal considering his age. But I understood why they did it.
A lot has been said about off ice BS concerning Sharp...And I won't go into that. But no matter if a player has a lily white reputation it isn't easy to deal a hefty contract, when you can't take back much money.
You brought up a valid point, maybe Sharps' production is tailing off, I think many more will assume so because of his age. He's getting older and the other factor is many of his goals the last two years have come on the PP....17 out of 44 and it won't help the % went up quite a bit so far this season.
Sharp and Bickell can be traded....Question is can they may be traded without retaining salary?? - Al
It's not that hefty a deal, though, when you look around at 1/2LW cost. He still is a 1/2LW on most teams in the league lbr.
And my point wasn't about his age really - it was that it's unproven that he's having anything more than a down year due mostly to bad linemates. It could be an age thing, but I cannot think of a player has this large a dip (.4 PPG) between two years without 1) an injury 2) linemate change 3) something that corrects the next year.
Also, a majority of his goals have not come on the PP the last two years. This year, for sure (though could that be because that was the only time he was with better players then hmmm), but it's almost an even split - 44 goals total, 23 5v5 + 3 4v4 + 17 PP + 1 EN. That's about 39%. That's not even really that much of a concern imo. Here's a sample of guys with at least 30% of their goals coming from the 44 (with at least 40 goals over the span of this year and last): Ovie 47%, Pavelski 44%, Parise 41%, Taveres 38%, Crosby 34%, Stamkos 30%, and Seguin 30%, and so on.
I still don't know why I really argue about this lol. I only care about Sharp as far as he helps the team - if the best help he can get is via trade, then so be it. I just think there will be GMs who look at Sharp's history and will be completely fine with his contract. It's pretty short term, after all. |

No argument and again and I don't disagree with much of what you said....My point still is at his age and with the lack of production, plus an injury it will be more difficult to deal Sharp this summer than last without retaining some salary.
The PP stuff is not such a big deal except for this season but will be held against him too... You compared Sharp to other goal scorers who are all younger and better than he is but.....
He fits on the 1st or 2nd line on some teams still, no doubt. If he is dealt it has to be to someone with the space and who believes he could make a big difference in their offense. The 1st team that comes to mind would be Florida.
