What do you guys think of the Clarkson for Horton deal?

Pure salary swap for both, but at least the BJ's get a guy who will dress.

Poor Horton is likely done...that back of his is shot.

- ArlingtonRob

Clb needed a warmer body. Tor couldn't wait to move Horton to LTIR. Talk about saving cap space. Not sure how this helps TOR near term since they're out of the playoff picture.

It interesting that Hawks seem to play their best when Nordstrom is in the line up. It allows Q to use Kruger and Smith to their strengths and it gives him better match ups for Toews and company at points throughout the game.

Love to see the 4th line get rewarded with some points but if they keep playing the same way, they will come.

- Elbows15

I was sold on 42/16/28 previously. Shouldn't be any reason for Q to change this going forward.

Not until , Vermette , Petry and Glencross are off the board .
- mrpaulish

Im hoping today is the day that Stan makes a deal and we actually have a legit 2nd line center in Vermette. Toews & Vermette at the dot would be insane!

It allows them to take on a bad contract for a fee of draft picks and or prospects. Good move to get cap space but Nonis will get the last bullet in the gun for basically throwing $30M out the window.

Not for the alleged asking price. A first and a prospect for a rental in a season where one of the top players and the team's biggest game breaker won't be available, is beyond stupid.

I agree with JJs point though that how many propects has Stan held on to for too long (Morin, Pirri, Olsen, etc) and lost for hardly anything worthwhile. What is the Hawks recent 1st round history look like? Not a lot of production/NHL contribution there. If the Hawks can get Vermette, upgrade D, and add depth through rentals (potentially resigning a couple) and sacrificing some of the prospect stock that has underwhelmed in callups and a 1st round pick I say Stan has the green light IMO.

Are you saying sell at the deadline or try to use AHL players to fill in for Kane? Vermette fills the void a little as an established top 6 player. McNeill, TT, Abbott ( ), come no where near.

If Kane is healthy and Management thinks a trade or trades give the team a better chance then go all in. But do you think adding rental players in Vermette and possibly Petry can put the Hawks over the top or is it just to appease Hawk fans who aren't thinking this throiugh and just want to see a trade?

Sorry pal , i like you Paul but wasting this season because of the Kane injury is wrong.

You never know. Vermette may be had for picks. No one is getting a superstar prospect for a rental

It doesnt have to be Petry but with free $ they can surely find a #4/5 D man to help solidify . If the Hawks only add 1 player I hope its a D man .
But.... since its about 6m in cap space aav then i kinda want a D man and a contributing forward.

I think this team can make the playoffs with out Kane... with that said now wouldn't be a bad time to get some cap space for next year and maybe have some left to bring in some term at the draft and circumvent a capageden 2.0 before it hits...... (runs for cover)

If management feel Vermette gives the hawks a reasonable chance to win the cup even without Kane in the lineup, I agree with you. If Management make the move not believeing they can win then they are hurting the Hawks chances going forward for no reason.

I think they always play to win, as you never know what can happen, but maybe a better way of putting it, is in what you have to give up to get. Which may be too high a risk reward. See Philadelphia for an example of over trading....

Of course. But if Management thinks there is no chance at a cup then I hope they do some selling.

To do nothing with a free gift of 6m dollars is crazy especially if Kane is back right aftwr the 1st round and your roster because of a glitch in the system can be 6.5m deeper than everyone elses rostEr.

If the Hawks xan survive the 1st round , Kane is a superior athlete , I bet he is healed in more lime 7-8 weeks as opposed to the 12 .

If TO is truly on the rebuild then perhaps they will save some money by not being a cap team. But we are talking the Leafs here so they will probably spend to the cap anyways and screw up the rebuild by continuing to be a middling team.

MLSE will pay for Horton by raising ticket prices next year and then becoming a team near the cap floor after they dump Phaneuf, Kessel, Bozak and Lupul.

I really hate the narrative of they kept players too long. You know you can't have it both ways.

On one hand, you can't say, we're doing the Detroit model, and we are going to let guys over develop and stay in the minors an extra year so they are past ready, then after said year say you held on to them too long.

You also can't use the narrative that the Hawks overvalue their prospects compared to the rest of the league, then kill them for not trading away these prospects and thinking the return was going to something special.

And as far as all the superstars the Hawks could have traded Olsen, Pirri, Morin, come with some facts of trades that were turned down to keep these guys. Its very easy to say Hawks could have gotten this guy or that guy without the facts. As it is, I think the trades that happened, the hawks got same or better value in most of them.

Really? Wasn't it you who accused the team of playing favorites instead of trying to win?
