Won't speak for anyone else but from my stand point the $21 mil for the wonder twins will probably be crippling to this team for the near future a la the Penguin effect. You make a good point that we will probably never know if $10.5 was the best that could be done and speculating gets us nowhere. But having those contracts along with another year for Sharp and the contracts of Crow and Bicks just doesn't allow very much flexibility so Bowman has painted himself into a corner.
The lack of freeing up space last summer by making a trade or two has not helped. So he has made the purge II inevitable in my view point.
Still hope that some big leaps happen from some players at the Rock and/or Stan can do some magic and get some return on what he is holding but he does not have much leverage left.
This Kane injury really sucks in all aspects except for firing up the discussion here. - Vark37
Would you have preferred Bowman had dealt the "wonder twins'? |

Those guys relay stuff to the press in Europe much more commonly than agents do here in the US where stuff is much more tight lipped - FourFeathers773

It's also possible taht Stan was close to nabbing Sekera for both players and that is why they were pulled. There is a delay on this stuff, keep in mind. |

To me, there are 4 key prospects I don't let go. Teravainen, Danault, Pokka, and Johns. Teravainen because he is the only legit top 6 pro prospect you have. Danault because he is your long-term bottom 6 center solution, and should be ready for the role likely vacated by Kruger next season. Pokka because he has legit top 4 potential. Johns because he has a pretty rare combination of size, speed, and instincts on both sides of the puck - you don't have a similar prospect in the system at the position. - BreakoutHockey
Then in this market and what your summer is going to look like, you are a seller and Sharp, Bickell, Oduya, Rozsival, Richards, Versteeg, and Crawford are all open to the highest bidder.
The 4 you mentioned will be the ask in a deal to get better this year and if you aren't willing to deal them, you tear it down NOW. |

This is why I think this may be the year Stan does deadline work.....
Also I think the word "Aggressive" means Patrick Sharp....
McKenzie sees Bowman being "very aggressive" exploring trade options. #Blackhawks #Coyotes #Oilers #Flames http://t.co/AYP6iN33oG - mrpaulish

UPDATE
Watch Edmonton and the Hawks, especially if nothing gets done with AZ. - John Jaeckel
First off, OUTSTANDING BLOG JJ!
Only reason I can see the above being true is the same asset is being proposed to both EDM and ARZ, i.e. a 2nd round pick.
I saw your later post on an expanded deal for Hendricks, Purcell and Petry but that appears to be a fall back if (or when) another team outbids Chicago for Vermette. If Petry and Vermette are available, the Hawks have the resources to get both IMO |

JJ ... I'm a loooooong time die hard Canucks fan so the fact you have me regularly reading a Hawks blog is a testament to your skills. Great post and great blog.
The horrible odds of drafting a quality NHL player is the elephant in the room. I love it when someone shows what draft picks actually translate too.
You have to build through the draft. But if you get a chance to fill an immediate need with near certainty ... you take it.

Trading Versteeg would be ridiculous. Top 6 forward at $2.2mil cap hit. |

Does AZ really want the guy who cheapshotted their goalie in the playoffs a few years ago? Why would they give up a good center for a bad one? Just to get younger? As a throw in? |

Would Hawks fan do that deal? - PatC80
I think we all know that the price for a one dimensional winger is two 1st and a 2nd |

Yes.
Did you see that group of D ?
Bickell is pure LUGGAGE .
In a.contract year he had a career post season and got paid for it . Good for him .
If there is friction in the room there is too much smoke around Sharp so if he has to go then so be it .
But look at that roster that was proposed ... no way Stan makes that many deals. |

The point is that if someone is going to "overpay" for a Top 6 forward at $2.2M, you need to listen. |

I guess I should have also admitted there's no way I see this happening. Too many deals in too little time.

By no means was that what I was implying. But more that he got himself into this mess and knowing those contracts were coming due he didn't do himself any favors.
Now it wasn't all on Bowman due to the lack of cap increase but he is supposedly the master. Seems he was less than stellar in this department. |

They have said (source was in a response on a previous blog so take it for what it's worth) to get younger with players that have term. So, yes, in essence, a throw in. |

The only available winger who could possibly sub in for Kane's presence is Jagr. Give him something to play for and he'll find another gear, help you win the cup, and then die. |

If Bickell is luggage why woukd anyone else want him?
I thought the room friction smoke was around Crawford?
If Stan makes that many deals do you think they can get the cohesion as a group to do well these playoffs? If they don't do well these playoffs with that roster then it was a collosal waste of time because too many players are rentals. |
