Food for thought: Edler leads the team's D with 17 points, followed by Tanev with 15

Good comparable, just solid, steady. Not flashy
- bezz44

Tanev doesn't have to use the body near as much because of his exceptional skating

I still don't understand why it matters how the player stops the other team from scoring, isn't the bottom line all that matters. Willie wasn't even close to a league leader in hits either, hell Sbisa is more physical than Willie. Willie actually relied on positioning and pokechecking quite a bit, like Tanev.

Tanev has simply been rock solid defensively against other top lines almost every night, the numbers don't lie.

- Nucker101

Agreed. Lindstrom made few mistakes defensively. Did u ever see him throw a hit? Smarts and skating are more important

Over the last two seasons, here's how Canuck d-men rank at goals against per 60 minutes played at 5v5(adjusted for zone starts so there's less influence by who gets easier/tough minutes).

1. Tanev - 1.89(given toughest matchups)
2. Stanton - 2.20(6th toughest)
3. Edler - 2.26(3rd toughest)
4. Hamhuis - 2.47(2nd toughest matchups)
5. Weber - 2.61(7th toughest)
6. Bieksa - 2.69(4th toughest)
7. Sbisa - 3.05(5th toughest)

*Difficulty of matchups is determined by average ice time of players they played against most often
*Clendening/Corrado haven't played enough to get a good sample size

- Tanev when paired away from Edler still has a solid 2.10 GAA
- Tanev has a similar effect on Hamhuis, but not as significant
- Edler when not paired with Tanev has his GAA jump to 2.73
- Yannick Weber is not a good defenseman
- Neither is Luca Sbisa
- Bieksa is declining and overpaid

Mostly looking to trade a forward for a relatively young d-man who can score 35+ points.

What do you mean? I'm serious. JVR's lazy as (frank). Overrated because he plays in Toronto and he knows Dreger , he's one dimensional and has a massive thing on his face. Leafs need to add.

How high were you when you sent me that offer? I should be offended. He has more points, hits and blocked shots than all 3 you offered.

I am all for trading Bieksa, but he was stuck playing with Sbisa a lot too. Was he any better with Hamhuis?

That little stretch of wins against good teams was an eye opener. I don't think we miss Bieksa. I think Biega has played pretty good. I'm still curious about Sanguinetti.

I know the box scores aren't always accurate, but did anybody throw any checks last night besides Biega, Horvat and Stanton?

I picked up Hammond and he gets back to back shutouts. If he keeps this streak up, I'll win the pool.
