My biggest issue with the deal is that I just don't like Clarkson. Of all the RW's you could make a move for, he's one of the most overrated I can think of. I really, really can't think of a worse piece to add

what other team is going to spend 40m dollars just to get rid of a player,

From the Columbus perspective, even an underperforming Clarkson brings more to the table than an injured Horton. His contract wasn't insured, so they're paying him to undergo treatment. At least they're paying Clarkson to play hockey.

Yeah so was Toronto. If you wanna call what clarkson does, play hockey

THANK YOU, COLUMBUS *clap clap clap-clap-clap*

Seriously, I see why this was done from both team's perspectives. I definitely feel like TML win this though...

I don't get it either, every bad contract in the league gives the rest if the teams a slightly higher chance at building a better team. Cheer for all 29 others to fail

If he returned to form and got 20-30 goals for Columbus, would be a bit of a burn for the Leafs....this makes me happy, I'm selfish

The thing is, it is quite clear that wouldn't happen on the Leafs.
Good for him if he gets those goals on another team, but he wasn't working and was just a cap drain in Toronto.

Exactly. Even if he scores 20 again I doubt any Leaf fans will be crying

It was a good move for Toronto, just not used to saying that very often. This might be Nonis's Opus.

As terrible as Clarkson's contract is, this a good move for both organizations. It's not necessarily a good move for Columbus from an on ice product perspective, but they're a small market team. On that note, why the hell was Horton's contract not insured?

Nonis took almost two years to fix a mistake.
He should receive faint praise at most.

you are right..im damn happy we dumped him because we can afford to pay a guy for nothing but cap space. We're a huge market. CBJ is not and wouldn't get close to the cap anyways so they need to get bang for their buck. it's strictly an economic move.

I agree with Todd in that Clarkson will probably be better in Columbus than he was in Toronto, but I'm still shocked by this move, and unless Clarkson magically regains his 25g + scoring touch that he had in NJ, this is easily going to go down as the worst move of the year for Columbus. Leafs fans will be dancing in the streets.
- Maritimes

I think you are wrong. I think this is a win for both teams. Columbus is not a cap team meaning that they will spend the same amount of cash regardless. Horton was 5.3M in dead cash not being used on the ice. Clarkson and his 10 goals / 30 points is better than nothing. Win for Columbus.

Leafs free up $5.25M in cap OR get Horton back some time in the future AND dump Clarkson. Win for Toronto.

Win for EVERYONE!! Lol

Given the Horton Insurance issue and essentially paying 5 mil a year for a guy to sit in the stands, it's a good deal for Columbus. If only for that reason. No matter how poor his production has been, there is the potential for impact and that potential outweighs the zero potential Horton has atm for CBJ.

I don't like Clarkson, but I get it. I'll give him a chance to see what he can do.

Good move for the Jackets, I can see Clarkson getting back to being a 20 goal guy, just wasn't working in Toronto, much like the rest of the team.
