In a way I admire Nolan in the aspect of "I'm a coach, I want to make my guys better so they can flourish in the future and of course, I want to win every game" so I can't fault the guy for standing up for his values, but I don't believe that Murry didn't express his extreme fondness for McEchiel when Nolan took the job, so deep down Nolan had to expect some of these moves to occur, especially trade deadline firesales

I never disliked the guy, nor have I ever lauded for his coaching ability, but it would be interesting to see what he could do with with a McEchiel and a collection of young, capable players.

"According to a source, Murray received a call about Hodgson from the St. Louis Blues, who offered a third round pick. Murray was apparently not impressed, as he declined the offer, per the source."

That's tough. Part of wants to get his contract off the books and part of me wants to see him play better with talented linemates. the potential of 20 goals per season is nothing to balk at. He can obviously do it.

Cody will be worth at minimum a 2nd next season if they don't buy him out. Guarantee it

"But Murray hit a snag when the Blues asked Murray to retain a portion of his salary. That is to be expected if Murray is to deal Hodgson, but the amount he was asked to retain was apparently too much for him to pull the trigger."

set parameters. You win the cup? his contract is on you....you make the finals? we're only paying X percent for X years.....stuff like that. Hodgson could help a team with talent. He just aint looking too good flanking a bag of pucks and a traffic cone.
Plus, ORGANIC! That's a buzzword, right?

How reliable is that blog and its "sources?"

It doesn't look like Cody's game fits the mold of what Murray appears to be going for, so it wouldn't surprise me if his future with the Sabres is questionable, but I still have confidence he can develop into a quality NHLer. He was supposedly working really hard in the past two offseasons with Gary Roberts and he showed he can score last season.

Somehow, he got in Nolans doghouse and is in 6:00 4th line jail with plugs this year. He's worth more than a 3d

Edit : insomnia sucks

Not a freaking chance. There is no way someone (especially St. Louis, who is already going to have cap issues) offered something for him and we said "no".

If it came down to us having to eat half of his salary I can bet they said no since buying him out would be cheaper against the cap

I didn't see anywhere that it said we would eat half of his salary. Agreed - he almost certainly gets bought out for the 800k cap hit. I think the only other scenario is taking back someone else's garbage.

Sabres notebook: Pysyk sent down despite Nolan’s lobbying

Ted Nolan lobbied for Mark Pysyk to stay in Buffalo. The defenseman showed he belonged.

He’s gone anyway.

The Sabres sent Pysyk back to Rochester after practice Friday despite an impressive week. Called up because Nikita Zadorov overslept and Tyson Strachan came down with an infection, Pysyk recorded a goal, assist and plus-4 rating in three outings. He averaged 17:49 of ice time per game and earned a spot on the power play.

With Zadorov out of healthy-scratch exile and Strachan back at practice, the demotion can be justified. However, it still gives further credence to the theories that Buffalo is tanking and Nolan has philosophical differences with General Manager Tim Murray.

The roster move came after Nolan’s daily news conference and before Buffalo departed for Florida for Saturday’s game against the Panthers.

Zadorov, scratched for the last three games, slid into Pysyk’s role on the power play and skated on the blue line with Andrej Meszaros. The 19-year-old is eager to put Sunday’s alarm-clock incident in the past.....................................

Another nail in Nolan's coffin?

I would think so. Nolan wants to win and Murray wants to tank. They can't co-exist. My guess is the day after the season is over Murray dismisses him. He probably has a plan moving forward.

I will say this. As much as I can't understand how the Sabres can have Ted Nolan as a coach, and say they're in it for the Cup with a straight face at the same time, this is pretty crappy. If a player belongs in the NHL, he should be playing in the NHL, and Pysyk fits in that category.

I get what you're saying and yes, Pysyk should be here. But after they move Meszaros on Monday, he'll be back and probably play here the rest of the season. I think that's the plan. Murray was even raving about Pysyk earlier this week. The fact Nolan said he "lobbied" to keep Pysyk here won't go over to well with Murray imo.

Who is going to give up any sort of asset for Meszaros? He will be here after the deadline, just like Henrik Tallinder was last year.

Also, I would assume if any trades are going to happen, they would happen before the game starts. Wouldn't they? So we won't have to keep checking for updates all day.

Not necessarily. Trades are a two way street. We'd all like to see the trades happen before 3pm today, but if the other GM isn't willing to pull the trigger yet, there's really nothing you can do.

We'll get a pick for him. Last year at the deadline he was traded to Boston for a 3rd.

Right. I meant if a trade is going to happen today it's going to be before the game. I wouldn't think if the other gm is ready to make the trade they would want to risk the player getting hurt. Otherwise trades might go right up to the deadline.
