It is because that's the job of your scouting to find the top 6 forward, top 4 D and starting goalies in the top 10 picks. obviously they don't turn out that way for a myriad of reasons, but getting a heart and soul guy there instead of something better is a failure of scouting.

Unless the team has a play it safe policy and it leans towards safe players over projects. I think back to last season when Anaheim took Ritchie and they could afford to gamble because they are a playoff team who fell into a top 10 pick, that is a team that can work with projects.

Then I think back to Colorado when they took MacKinnon over Jones because they needed to hit on that pick and despite their lack of defense Mack was the safe play because defense are hard to gauge.

Remember clouts? Where's he now? Garner?

Despite hating the Flames immensely I could never do anything but respect the Hell out of Iginla. He's everything you could want in a franchise player, sure would suck to have a guy like that and not win a Cup.
