I agree it's too much but that's what it's going to cost to land him. Enstrom, Burns and Niskanen all make around that kind of bank. He's going to be another Clarkson type signing, he's not the best but he is the best available.

It's crazy but as of right now only 10 defensemen will make 6 million or higher next season. Johnny Boychuk isn't a top 10 defenseman but he's going to be paid like one.

And he's a quality nhl'er people.

Hes anchoring nyi's defence and is proving that him stepping up last year for Boston wasn't a fluke. Chara and seidenberg both went down and they hardly skipped a beat with him at 1. For quite awhile too.

He's no all world talent, but he plays a big, tough game and can move the puck and has a cannon.
Overpaid or not, he'd help alot.

Ya I'd assume he's looking for longterm as well, which you can't hold against him for wanting stability. Playing a hard nosed game like he does his body will start to break down in the not too distant future. I wish I still had his phone number so I could call and ask him what he's thinking.
