Upgrade on anyone we have on the farm? - Jeropotato
It would allow for Oesterle to be sent down and not hurt the playoff chances of OKC. |

originally he told Calgary he wasn't going to play for them. Only wanted to play for the Rangers like his father. So he gets traded, then get included in the package for Nash to Columbus.
Perhaps he has matured since his Calgary days. - ChetManly
if he didnt want to play in calgary I don't know then. Edmonton isn't a whole lot different

He was much younger. He never actually played for Calgary, he was their draft property and was playing overseas. |

He is doing great in the AHL this year. It'll be interesting to see what happens during TC. Maybe he gets a spot on the opening night roster. |

This is a poor argument for saying goodbye to Petry. If Petry is willing to take a 18-19 million dollar deal over 4 years then management should have gotten it done. - Dangles13
4 years at under 5 mil?
He shoulda been paid this even last year when there were more question marks.
The dollars are far from unreasonable and the term doesn't hurt.
I have a hard time believing that's all he asked for and was shutdown (it's less than a mill overpay to what he was probably worth last year).
and he certainly wouldn't get denied that now.
And then it's confusing cause buddy says he wants to go south and use his Ufa status.
So he did want a marginal overpay, but now wants to go Ufa?
Or he played hardball from the start cause he always wanted to go Ufa? |

100% bubba. With the rising cap, any NHLer who is at least half-decent and paid under 5 million a year for under 5 years will always be moveable.
Also, in this market if MacT doesn't get a 1st for Petry, I question whether he's the right guy for the job. |

Unless Chicago acquiring Timmonen means we missed the last buyer, I don't think it'll be that hard to play a couple teams (detroit and anaheim?) off each other. Just seems like the market is heavily favouring sellers right now, and if MacT comes out with a 3rd and a 2016 4th i'll just wonder if he'll ever be able to capitalize on a favourable situation.
I mean, I'd accept a 2nd and a good prospect. Since players don't want to come here and we have to overpay in the UFA market, our GM needs to be above-average in acquiring picks and drafting. Tough assignment for sure, and I hope MacT is the guy but he needs to show it in moments like this.
That being said, I guess the cat's out of the bag that we're definitely moving him, which could stutnt the return a little. |

Yeah there is just too many variables to consider. You or I can list the reasons Petry>Timmonen but If the Hawks simply are nbot interested in Petery for some reason (say, no playoff experience) than it all becomes moot. I wont blame MacT for the decisions of another GM...but I will be pissed if MacT prices Petrey out of the market and teams say (frank) it and turn to the Gleasons and Timmonens of the world for that reason. |

Yeah, I'm conscripting MacT to a tough assignment. You make a very good point that in all honesty if MacT played hardball and then Petry walked for nothing, I'd be slagging him just as hard.
The only way I can figure it is that at the very least, the rights for UFA-to-be Petry could get a high 3rd at the draft. That's sort of my feeling looking back at other players who's rights have been traded. So the 20 plus games and playoffs, plus more time to try to re-sign him, should make him that much more valuable to a team. |
