Depends on how bad his injury is, there's not many games left so an injured 4th liner who's a pending UFA holds minimal value. - Nucker101
19P in 43 games this year so long as he is back for the playoffs there's no reason we couldn't get a 3rd and a prospect |

You could say the something about Horvat then though and he made the team. - manvanfan
Exception, not the rule. These guys are down on the depth chart and they need to be clearly NHL ready or they will not make the team |

Who would you see on the Canucks next year? MCCann Higgins Vitanen Gaunce or Jensen? |

I agree they have to be ready and we can't just leave a spot open but we can't go in against the cap and not have cap space or roster space for them. Physically I think Virtanen is ready, his defensive game IDK. If McCann comes in as Horvat and able to win face-offs he has won a job because they suck at face-offs! |

Because he earned it, not because they set a spot aside for him. - CubanBuffet
Yep. You don't just gift a roster spot to guys with no pro experience, especially when you have guys in the AHL who are probably closer. IMO any of those three guys need to pass Gaunce, Shink, Jensen etc. before they can make a real push for a spot |

Jensen, 5 games this year no points. he sure isn't making a case to make the roster. He's not destroying the AHL either. |

Gaunce has it in tough though. Looks to be projecting to be a 3rd or 4th line LW which is currently Matthias and Dorsett spots. I doubt he beats either of them out for the spot. |

This is why we need to understand that pencilling in rookies is not realistic. Just because the guy is young and shiny does not mean he will come in and light the world on fire |

You doubt the guy with 2 more years of experience can beat out Matthias or Dorsett yet McCann and Virtanen will be able to? |

If Jensen can't crack the line up by next season, you got to move on. And at some point you got to see what you got. Who would have thought Biega, Horvat, Kenins, etc would have played as good as they have?
Got to play them at the NHL level to see if they can compete. |

No, neither did horvat though but Kenins has . I'm just willing to give them a shot because if they can great if not then they get the experience and take it back to junior. Younger and more speed would be awesome though! GOODBYE HIGGINS! |

But how many training camps do you give a player before you spend the same time and money on another player? |

It would be awesome, and by no means should they discriminate against rookies, but you don't gift them anything, or put the expectation on them that they have to make the team. I don't want to be the Oilers |

McCann will probably be after the same role as horvat had this year. Virtanen will be looking for a top 6 winger spot if he can't make it then he will be back in Junior. |

What makes you think that Gaunce is not a better option than McCann they will be fighting for the same spot and Gaunce has two years of development and about 20lbs. on him. If you don't think Gaunce can beat out Matthias or Dorsett, then what I am saying is that it is an ever longer shot for McCann to do it. Remember when people were pencilling in Shinkaruk as 2nd line winger? It's just ridiculous to put that kind of expectation on someone coming out of junior. You leave them the option to surprise you, but don't expect it to happen |
