I have a hunch the sabres locked up 30th place yesterday

How much worse could the Sabres have been? They went 0 for January, and didn't even get a loser point if I'm not mistaken.
- buffalofan19

Goalie and Stewart should have been moved well before yesterday. If he puts the foot on the gas at that point this thing would have already been over. If we miss this thing it is only going to be by a handful of points. All those wins in February were costly.

And this is where your argument falls down. Flash back four years ago. Your roster is made up of Pommer, Roy, Vanek, Gaustad, Miller, etc. What is GM Hat going to do?
- Slump Buster

C'mon GM Hat, still waiting for what you would have done differently 4 years ago.

i agree he wasn't traded drury and briere but as you said not signing them was bad.. then there is the Vanek thing.

Hasek was the fault of his team building. Hasek would have been fine if he just put a half assed decent team in front of him. so i do put that on him

peca should have been signed.. so again i put that on him. but yes it was a decent return

- IndianaSabresFan

Mike Peca was traded for Connolly and Pyatt.

Connolly walked via UFA

Pyatt was traded for a 4th rd pick

The 4th rd pick was traded for 2 5ths.

Those 5ths were Jean-Simon Allard and Bradley Eidsness.

it comes down to the two ARZ games in a few weeks.. if we split those it will be close if one of us wins both the other gets it

(This is meant with a bit of sarcasm)

But I do not agree at all. There may have been no market up until yesterday. To criticize is a bit unjust, IMO.

I'm not killling him but at the same time we know what the goal was. He could have moved Stewart anytime (and I couldn't care less what the return was).

Nobody is falling all over Murray for the moves made yesterday. Tearing down is easy. Putting the franchise in this position (as Darcy did) is easy. Now he needs to build it. If we does it he will be lauded. If not we will criticize him.

ehh.. connolly was held on to for way too long. He never should have been signed after his injury. I think they should have just walked away from him sooner. But he had the promise to be a top 6 guy until he realized he had to skate with his head up

Please...... Tell us what Sabres GM in the last 20 years has done anything EXCELLENT that has gotten the Sabres a Cup? Where is the franchise player that any damn one of them brought in here? Please tell us.....

Gerry Meehan

but that was 22 years ago

aside from his Ray Sheppard blunder, the the Fuhr trade, Meehan was not afraid to swing for the fences

During that span, Neuvirth still was getting back into form from his injury. It was mostly Enroth during that time span. I'm not sure what value Neuvirth had before the deadline. It was only after Enroth was traded that Neuvirth became the best goaltender available. Could he have traded him one or two games earlier? Sure, but they lost the last game. The Sabres aren't in any better or worse shape because Neuvirth was traded. Stewart cooled down before he was traded. Both are non-issues.

I will not applaud him for "tanking" and having a generational talent fall into his lap.
I will certainly enjoy the player but he will get no credit from me for getting him.
The way he is arriving here is nothing short of embarrassing.

- BuffaloHardHat

This is where Murray if different from you. He doesn't care if you applaud him or praise him. If Murray was more like you, he would be telling everybody how the guys before him effed everything up and he had to come in and be the savior, because he is the best guy ever at doing his job and that's why people call him when they want the job done right.

if darcy pays Peca a little more instead of drawing a line in the sand, Hasek retires a Sabres

I think this is how Murray is too. Will he maybe make some bad trades or signings? Sure. Every GM does though.

Remember how Garth Snow looked like a complete mess as a GM before this year?

I will never forget the goal he scored with 4 seconds left in the season to eliminate the Flyers from making the playoffs.... Shot from center ice and right past Doug Favell....

The point I would make is this... What other choice did Murray have? Keeping those players meant another year or 5 of mediocrity....

look at the current roster

when you factor trades and injuries

3 of their best special teams players up front are either traded or out for the season with ennis also being dinged up

3 of their top 6 scorers uup front are either out for the year or traded

they went from credible nhl goaltending to the worst in the league

only additions are coming from rochester

matt ellis moves up a line

aside from a coho and foligno tear along with gringo, this team is a bogo injury away from clinching 30th place with 5 games left on the schedule
