Long time lurker here (2006).

Today, IMO...is the most important day of this franchise's history. Why? Three words really...McDavid and Eichel! These two are about as sure things as you can find in an NHL Draft. They'll both instantly change the organization in ways most common fans can't comprehend (I've worked in the NFL for almost a decade - for multiple teams, and when you land a franchise player...the positive changes they bring are fascinating from every aspect of the organization).

Let me give you a quick snapshot of an organization who 100% tanked (there were websites created showing every week what this team was doing to purposely make sure they lost). That team? The one and only Indianapolis Colts! You see, they had an All-Pro QB who we are all very familiar with in Peyton Manning - who was with that team for 14 years (141-67 record with Indy). His last year when he was hurt, the Colts knew there was a kid in that draft (Andrew Luck) who was about as sure of a QB as Manning was coming out of college (those don't come along often in the NFL). As mentioned, the Colts purposely tanked to ensure they got the #1 pick...so they could draft the guy that will do EXACTLY what Peyton did for that team. WIN! Which is what 99.99% of fans want with their team...in fact, if you asked Colts fans right now if they were OK with what happened.

The Colts made a short term sacrifice, for the greater good of that team and city. Marketing, Merchandise, Ticket Sales, Sponsorships, Attracting Free Agents, the positive effect it has on employee morale (which is a fascinating discussion, as I've been a part of both), and most importantly WINNING. All of that increases tenfold because of what they did. If you can't see the correlation between that, and what the Sabres should be making their #1 ABSOLUTE priority...well there really isn't much more to say.

Which is why if I'm TM today, I make sure the following happens:

1. Stewart gets dealt
2. Neuvirth gets dealt
3. Mez - Dealt
4. Hodge - Dealt
5. While this might be unpopular to some, I absolutely try and package Ennis with someone like Grigorenko and try and grab someone like Hall (who's out for year) or a stud of a prospect and 1st round picks. Why? Because this team has to do EVERYTHING in its power to make sure these next 19-20 games show up as losses. And right now, Ennis is our best player offensively...which is why you make this kind of sacrifice.
6. Come tomorrow, I fire Nolan if I'm TM. After what he did a few days ago (publicly calling me out), I show this team and organization those days are over with. You don't want to get on board with the organizations goals, see ya! Have fun coaching Uzbekistan!!! Let someone else start mentoring these kids who actually isn't a cancer, and knows and accepts what's going on. After season TM can find "his guy" to truly get this rebuild on the right track.
