How? There were four teams with equal chance at winning and they were one of them. They did not beat any odds.
- rmiethaner

The Sabres beat the odds more in that draft if I'm not mistaken. I think they drew balls for the entire draft order and the Sabres picked 13th despite having the same number of balls as the Pens.

Buffalo is a great hockey market so if its fixed AND I DONT BELIEVE IT IS AT ALL, but if it was Id think it'd be fixed so we DO get McDavid.
- Homer

If the lottery wasn't 'fixed' why not have it televised or witnessed by fans? For a League always looking for a buck, this a made for the NHL network wet dream.
It doesn't really add up really. Weather true or not, the lack of transparency to the actual lottery drawing lends itself to this type of thinking.

The biggest thing I got out of that was that Jordan named his daughter jordyn. Why?

Yeah seems like he held on too long and it ended up costing us value.
- zdp1189

Something Darcy would never have done.
Darcy got value for his less than stellar players, always did.
Darcy wasn't smug and thought that he was going to outsmart all the other brighter GM's in the league the way Murray thinks he is going to.
As I said yesterday, Murray's smugness will be his demise and I can just about guarantee that, there was evidence of it yesterday.
If that is true that Anaheim offered a 4th for Meszaros and he turned that down and in the end got nothing well.....that speaks to what I am pointing out about him.
If Murray needs tanking to make a name for himself to collect a generational talent, well he's not fooling this guy.
Any neanderthal can do what he did yesterday and IMO lose on the Kane deal as well.
He was brutal as far as GM's go yesterday but some here make excuses for him, and well that's their prerogative.
So let's all give him credit for making his coach look bad.
So let's all give him credit for wasting season ticket holders monies sitting and watching this abomination called hockey.
So let's all give him credit for deliberately tanking to have a generational talent fall in his lap, laughing at the NHL, it's systems and an organized game that has existed for over 100 years.
Let's all give him credit when he boasts about how he attained McDavid or Eichel when he only did what a "caveman could do".
What's alarming is that everyone (well not everyone) but mostly, want to sing Murray's praises for doing nothing thus far IMO and do nothing but knock and hack Darcy down at the knees when he put the Sabres in a very good position upon his dismissal.
Murray makes one trade that IMO he overpaid and his smugness killed him at the deadline.
Lets not even mention a 2nd rounder for -30 at one stretch this season Josh Gorges.
I'll give credit to the guy when HE HIMSELF actually does something to improve this hockey club.
This summer he has tons of cap space where he can play the part of vulture much like the Islanders did at the start of this season, eating other teams cap casualties.
Yet another gift to Murray and nothing he had to devise a plan for or work for.
Let's see what he does with it.
That guy doesn't have me fooled one bit.

This is true, but I think the argument would be that the kids in Rochester would be an improvement

Nobody is falling all over Murray for the moves made yesterday. Tearing down is easy. Putting the franchise in this position (as Darcy did) is easy. Now he needs to build it. If we does it he will be lauded. If not we will criticize him.

I will not applaud him for "tanking" and having a generational talent fall into his lap.
I will certainly enjoy the player but he will get no credit from me for getting him.
The way he is arriving here is nothing short of embarrassing.

so anyone that sold yesterday is an embarassment? When is it ok to sell? He brought in 5 NHL players in the offseason and then made a massive hockey trade during the season.

I told my wife last night that the Orlando Solar Bears would probably beat the Sabres right now. Sparks would probably get a shutout.

If Regier was still here for some ungodly reason what would he be doing? My guess is tanking. Regier had long enough with this organization and he gave us nothing. Im not saying Murray is the best gm ever but I wont throw him under the bus yet till he has built his team. Regier held on too long to the old core otherwise we would have been through this rebuild earlier.

Look at the players he brought in.
I touched on all of this in previous my post SB.
But if you want to give him credit for bringing in Strachan, Benoit, Meszaros, and losing a 2nd round pick for Josh Gorges that's up to you, I certainly won't.
I wasn't crazy about the Molson contract either.

It really doesn't have anything to do with them.
My astonishment is with the Murray love.

So you're having it both ways. Strachan, Benoit and Meszaros were better than the embarassments that were here last year (many of whom are not in the NHL anymore). They are 5, 6 and 7 D and were not advertised as anything more than that. We needed leadership and a #4 D and Gorges fit the bill. He hasn't had a stellar season but it was not some kind of robbery. Also, we have scores of 2's laying around. He surely could have brought in worse.

Once again, who is saying Murray is GM of the year? He finished the job he was tasked with. The teardown is over.
