(frank) this I'm done... I'm serious...

This teams lack of depth and picks is is a (frank)ing joke...

1st round exits bc no secondary scoring... let's put the only young kid with skill we have on the 4th line... let's trade the young skilled top4 dman for an unskilled 6/7 spot dman...

(frank)ing joke of an org...

I'd also be curious to see what Scuderi could have fetched on the open market....considering the huge premiums on defenseman.

And for those who are judging Lovejoy by the player he was years ago, that's unfair. He's significantly improved and was playing on a top pair with Fowler this season.

I think the folks that mentioned this is a swap for a more stable guy in Lovejoy who makes the solid, albeit unspectacular, play almost every time as opposed to a guy who could be super dynamic at times but also make the occasional bonehead mistake that could cost you a playoff game hit it on the head. That's the only rationale behind this deal I can think of.

I didn't even realize Love was firkin 31 years old.

That said, GMJR has to get us a draft pick out of this deal also. Love + like a 3rd would have been easier to stomach.

Don't understand it.

I thought I read somewhere back around when he was signed that him (or his agent) reached out the Pens and initiated the coming back to the Pens. That he wanted to be on the east cost closer to his family and he really wanted to be on the Pens.

At the end of the day it's still Shero's signing but I for one do not hate on Scuderi like most do. I'd rather have Despres than Scuds though.

I hate the overvaluing of experience that JR referenced in his press conference. But for THIS season, I feel more comfortable with Lovejoy and Cole than I do with Despres and Bortz defensively.

The problem for me is asset management, we gave up Lovejoy for a 5th and we could have signed Winnik in the offseason without giving up a 2nd. That's what stings. I dont think we got worse today.

- YouMeAndDupuis9

At the time a 5th was what Lovejoy was worth. It was that or have him sit as the odd man out. And for Winnik, of the FA signings JR made who would not of signed to fit Winnik in ?

The days of cheap acquisitions/rentals are over. Look at what Coburn brought back to Philly; look at what Petry brought back to Edmonton. Both are mediocre defenders at best. The prices clearly went up.

So while we gave away Lovejoy for a 5th rounder in 2013, that wasn't going to be enough to bring him here. Price of doing business is waaaaaaaaaaaaay different than it was 2 years ago.

Shero was proud of that signing. Said he got a "redo" from when he let Scuderi walk the 1st time

When? He missed time with a broken hand. Show me were he was scratched?

I'm a huge Despres supporter and think we didn't get enough value back, but this isn't a horrible deal. Not in the least. Cole will surprise as well.

Letestu was apparently a 3rd and 5th to acquire. Shero gave people away for nothing. That doesn't mean their value as a player is that low.

Ben Lovejoy is a healthy scratch on Thursday
Feb 5 - 8:22 PM

no idea how much longer he was scratched or how often he was healthy scratched, did a quick search and came up with that as the first link.

Letestu and Lovejoy were also spare parts when the were traded. They weren't established NHL players like they are now....but the cost of players has definitely gone up this year. Not enough sellers ?

I feel more comfortable for next season, too, as Lovejoy and Cole (RFA) should both be back.

They had Maatta, Pouliot, Harrington, Dumoulin and Despres around as young defensemen. There wasn't room for all five of them, and they made their choice.

There's probably only really room for three of them actually. Two dogs, one bone for Harrington/Dumoulin next year would be a nice setup.

Think that was a precursor to his being traded though? That is just a few days ago.

And it appears to have been a one-game thing. Can't find any info other than on fantasy-type sites.
