Notice how small the number of teams got post salary cap era? And Im not sure why the three bolded are on your list
From 2001 to 2006 the Anaheim ducks drafted in the top 10 four times. Tampa bay tanked hard to get Vinny Lecavalier as they put up just seventeen wins.
Carolina, Eric Staal - Sabresfan-365
Colorado?
Did we forget they were Quebec? |

I wanted to punch whoever it was that kept asking the same stupid question of Murray at the presser yesterday. I guess it's honorable to not trade UFAs and get nothing for them to make it seem less like tanking. - Pierceme69
that was an impressive display by murray...when he pulled out the neuvirth/lindback thing, game-over |

Pathetic. Team of the perpetual rebuild. This trading dealine might be the impetus for the NHL to change the drafting process. - howiehandles
Perpetual being the operative word. If we had done it right (like this) before, it wouldn't have been as such.
Thanks for proving our point for us! |

Well done Michael , "excellent" blog !!
Really like this part.
"Gleason would later clarify where he stood while in a tweet-duel with the venerable Luke Russert.
"I'm not against the top pick," tweeted Gleason. "I'm for the idea that teams in pro sports should compete every day, every season. How about reality? People continue to suggest that I don't appreciate what McEichel can do. My problem is with the process, Buffalo in particular, sports in general."
Bucky, Harrington and I are riding the same wave. |

Carry over for my man Hat:
Hat,
How about just pulling back a bit on here? We understand your values and what you stand for (many of us have the same family values). We all have opinions that differ from one another, just maybe the approach is what is turning people off so much? Does that make sense at all? - Irish 14
You know I got you my Irish brother. |

Thanks, I was going to carry it over anyways.
That is acceptable. I was hoping you weren't talking about competing for the playoffs next year and that signaling the failure of the 2-year GM |

Since you're speaking for the group that seems to ignore the obvious, please enlighten the class. Flash back 5 years ago and tell us the moves that you would have made as GM.

as a fan of a team that has really sucked but still tried to put the best product on the ice every year, i can honestly say that i'm really proud that the flames went the way they did. and even though i was hoping for a good shot at mcdavid this year, i had a lot more fun cheering for an overachieving team that worked their asses off and gave the playoffs a true run, while still developing young talent.
not trying to high road you guys, i'm just proud to be a flames fan. |

this team may go 2-17 for the rest of the season and get outscored 60-20 over that span |

The last 18 seasons for Buffalo (18 because that's what fit on my screen for the screenshot)
They've ridden the waves to no success.
Number of times Calgary drafted Top 10 in this span: 7
Buffalo?: 4 (#2 last year and #8 the year prior are 2 of them - so still undeveloped) |

My disagreement with the Kane trade aside, I don't see anything "impressive" about what Murray has done.
He didn't pull off a Gaustad type trade, or even get decent value for any player moved yesterday.
He did his job. He moved a couple FA's that any GM/team would move in our situation |

Push from last blog
I love the banter about how a last place team is losing in an undignified way.
I suppose we should lose like the Oilers, Having the #1 pick year after year, stockpiling talent and then falling flat on our faces infinity times.
Or maybe lose like the Yotes who gave away all their good players to tank.
but the Sabres keeping all of their talented players and shedding all UFA garbage is the classless embarrassing way to go.
What is the proper way to lose HH?
BTW: Pomminville's goal was the best. Short handed, against the leagues best wingers, against a hated team in the playoffs in OT in spectacular fashion. You guys can wax poetically about the old time goals but that one has it all including the best RJ call of all time.

This was kicked around a bit in the previous blog. I don't think anyone is slapping Uncle Tim on the back. Tearing down isn't that hard and that isn't a lot of glory in it. What he does next is what we will use to grade him. I'd take another Kane trade (lesser pieces for bigger pieces) all day long. |
