As per the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 30% of athletes sustained a second ACL injury within 24 months of returning to activity, with 20.5 percent sustaining an opposite leg injury and 9 percent incurring a graft re-tear injury on the same leg. |

Question.
If Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux were so close in the argument of "Greatest of All Time", why is there a huge discrepancy in the values of their rookie cards?
The same can be said for the discrepancy between Orr and Gretzky although there is a few more variables involved. |

Wow McCoy
before I read the hate posts
1. McCoy is the leading RB for yards in the NFL over the last 4 years
2. McCoy is a great pass catching RB
3. He will be 27 years old this fall
4. Roman did wonders with an aging Gore
5. the Eagles O line may have been worse then ours last season
6. This probably makes Fred Jackson viable for another 2 years
7, The Bills D was ranked in the top 5 w/o Alonso last season
8. No telling how healthy Alonso will be moving forward with that injury
9. Charles makes a blah Alex Smith serviceable for the regular season so one can expect McCoy to make a blah QB better.
10. Trent Dilfer won a SB with a horse for a RB with a great D
11. McCoy is a top 3 RB and Kelly wore the snot out of his RB's on saturdays
12. Philly fans are pissed - homiedclown
Great move imo. Kiko is coming back after what? A second knee operation? Great trade, minimal cost.

It has to do with quantity and quality of the player. And sometimes quantity has a much bigger factor in price than the quality of the player. Especially in the early years of cards.

Easy Answer: Finding Rookie Cards from the 70s in good condition is considerably harder that ones from the 80's. Card collecting started to surge right around the mid 80's peaking in the late 80's to mid nineties. You'll see a lot more Mario Rookies in good condition that Gretzy Rookies. Plus The great one has the all the records and the NHL retired his number so he will always be considered the best. |

I know we're going to lose this game, but I was really hoping the goalie would look like more of a problem than he has. He hasn't been all that bad at all. - sven233
Those 2nd and 3rd goals both hit the post and went in as opposed to some horrible mistakes leaving easy goals |

Stamkos and someone else both missed empty nets/easy goals. Could have looked worse if those went in. |

I missed almost all of the 1st and turned it off about halfway into the 2nd, so just speaking on what I "saw" (like most games this season, I only paid half attention anyways).
Excited to actually watch hockey next season. |

There isn't that much of a difference in quantity between the two years (it is a major difference between the Orr and Gretzky though). Mass production didn't start until as early as 1986-87. Which is why the Hull rookie (88-89) isn't that high in value (it was a double print card). In fact 66 cards(165 were in the set) from the 85-86 set (Mario Rookie year)were short print cards.
A graded 1 Gretzky has a value of about $125.
A graded 1 Mario has a value of about $15. An 8.5 Mario only has a value of about $120. |

I Tried Really Hard to pay undivided attention last night - but just couldn't. There was a lot of slapping the puck around from our guys last night, aand not very much in the way of high level hockey.
I get exactly how important it is to finish in last - and I am having a hard time imagining that anyone can stop the Sabres from doing that. I'll have to start looking for Yotes games. |

Searching on Ebay (just on graded cards as I'd never buy a high value card like these ungraded) paints a different story and are closer than you think.
Just on Beckett
Gretzky rookies graded 7 or better total 1,183
Lemieux rookies graded 7 or better total 1,029
Total Gretzky's graded are 2579
Total Lemieux's graded are 1458
The main issue is that damn blue boarder on the Gretzky(much like the black boarder on the 1971 topps baseball set). |

Interesting. I would be interested in the breakdown of volume for each grade. That paints a better picture than just lumping a common grade, 7, with an elite grade, 10, |

They aren't.
Messier
Bourque
Are right up there with the Mario.
A Mess BVG 7.5 is 110. Now unfortunately Mess only has an OPC rookie but a Mario BVG 7.5 can be picked up for 90.
Something I had not thought of is topps stopped production of hockey cards for 82/83 and 83/84. They stepped up production for 84/85(Stevie Y and LaFontaine rookie year) which in the grand scheme of thing aren't that valuable. |
