For the anti-tank crowd:
What should have the Sabres done differently this year? What would have made you feel better about this year?
Call-up Psyk earlier? Don't trade UFA's?
What am I missing? The Sabres stink. Darcy drafted 150 players in 16 years and 4 of them turned into all-stars. As a result, we have a crappy team, which takes time to turn around. It is as simple as that.
The fact that people are on their high horse and preaching how morally bankrupt the Sabres are is comical. This team stinks and was going to stink no matter what. - jacquescloutier
5 of them have as Girgensons was a Darcy pick.
As much as I feel fan voting is a joke, he played in the game.

Gerbs, I certainly do not want to be a mediocre team forever I mean I am getting up their age so I don't want to wait forever.
There are indeed others that feel that same exact way I do.
But hey, you think the only way you stop being mediocre is to deliberately ice the worst possible team you can?
There are better ways to move away from mediocrity other than to deliberately tank Gerbs.
My counter idea - hire the right management personnel, get all the players and coaches on the same page, draft well, play the game right, win hockey games .
The old fashioned way, by earning your way to attain the coveted prize.
I am not going to sit here and berate y'all that are on board with the tank, that is how you want this done, maybe impatience plays a role, not sure.
But it's the way you want it done and I don't but that's okay too.
Will I enjoy McDavid or Eichel if we get them?
Of course I will.
I will just not have enjoyed the way we arrived to pick them up, but that's me. - BuffaloHardHat
Murray is orchestrating much bolder moves which is way more polarizing.
He is doing things Darcy was unable to do or was not allowed to do. Its different so apparently it is Worse/Wrong - RynoBull
I think much of the fan base became accustomed to Regier's last minute "we' rip you off trade" where the Sabres receive some kind of ridiculous compensation for an otherwise "good" player. What a lot of fans don't realize, is that those kind of trades were exactly the reason why Regier could never get anything significant done. NO ONE wanted to deal with someone who won't come down on a first rounder for Gaustad. Regier's offers ranged from insane to insulting. There was an interview a while back with Brian Burke who called Regier out on this exact thing.
Murray on the otherhand has been on the phones since day one of his tenure in Buffalo, and we've traded with a number of teams you'd never think would have dealt with this franchise under Regier. Sometimes you're just not going to get a first round pick for every player you trade away.
Boom, so true! These Buffalo sports writers drive me nuts (Harrington & Gleason). Didn't they bag on Regier because he stood pat and didn't trade some of his key UFA's

Bucky is a joke. "One player won't solve the Sabres woes". Really Bucky?
First it can be argued if they even have woes. They have taken more control over their destiny right now than they have at any point in recent history. Maybe ever. And secondly thank god 1 player won't do it because I'm sure Kane, Bogosian, Reinhart, McEichel, Pysyk, our other great prospects, our other first rounder and our likely top 2nd round pick will.
edit: And our abundance of cap space, aggressive GM and wealthy owner who is more than willing to spend.

People wanted change, now they don't like it, wanted Darcy gone, now they don't like it, want McEichel, but want to play good, wanted to tank in the begininng of the year, now they say it's wrong. I give up. - SABRES 89
People wanted a big new shiney shopping mall to replace the old one that wasn't keeping up with the rest. The anchor stores were not providing anything new and exciting . So the owner got a new GM with new ideas and tore it down. Dug a big hole to start the new foundation. Some people hate it and were happy with the yearly remodel job so they had a place to go. New anchors will be brought in and the shiney mall will be there again. Not over night.
Anyone want to make bold predictions for the rest of the season? Here is mine: Cody Hodgson will be top-3 in scoring for the Sabres the rest of the season.

the only path that involved not tanking should have been
1. Let Nolan go last off season
2. Hire a top notch coach and top notch special teams coach
3. addressed a center last off season
4. grabbed better d men last off season
5. get faster wingers
6. play the trap
way too much to expect
I thought the effort from this team was going to be better, the talent was on par with what I expected

Well to be fair having 4 goals will probably be the leading scorer for the next 19 games...
