First it can be argued if they even have woes. They have taken more control over their destiny right now than they have at any point in recent history. Maybe ever. And secondly thank god 1 player won't do it because I'm sure Kane, Bogosian, Reinhart, McEichel, Pysyk, our other great prospects, our other first rounder and our likely top 2nd round pick will.

The Arizona GM tooks his tank comments to a new level. Not only did he say he was doing it, he said that he wished that he had done it earlier in the year. No mention of it nationally.

It's a joke. Katie Strang (NYR and ESPN) called Phoenix "winners" at the deadline, but Buffalo "losers." I don't get it.

She even threw in a line taking a shot at the Buffalo weather for good measure! She said that McDavid better like the cold weather - nevermind that he is from Canada....

All great points on building a winning team, but I don't think 3-5 would have been possible last offseason even if the Sabres were trying to be competitive. This team was gutted of it's corps players, and we were already looking at a young roster. It would have been extremely hard to entice anyone to come here for anything other than a massively inflated contract. Even then - and just look at whatever the Flyers do each and every year - signing free agents doesn't translate into success. This team had way too many holes to fill, and bringing in an entire top six line of FAs would have been way too costly, and just impossible quite frankly.

And the Sabres were, and still are looking at potentially the strongest stable of young defensemen in the league - why bring in another guy so he can play bottom 6 minutes?
