Biega and Clendenning and even Stanton will be fine in about two years as all around Dmen . They are youn and need time for their game - VANTEL
Biega is the same age as Weber, I hope they do keep him around as an AHL vet and call-up option though. Stanton should be re-signed and Clendening will hopefully improve next year after his rookie year. Needs to get more confident and use his puck skills. |

I still think the Canucks need an Engelland Despres Dillon type Dman back there |

Despres and Dillon, sure. Engelland is a 6/7 guy who shouldn't be playing every night. Benning said they acquired Pedan to hopefully be a McQuaid-type, a solid bottom pairing d-man who can play every night and bring toughness. |

Found it interesting that he is using some of the "Boston Model", said in the 1040 interview that in Boston they tried to find some d-men with toughness like Boychuck/McQuaid and help them develop/refine their game in the AHL so that they could be NHL-ready and fill that role of a tough d-man with size.
That explains why he gave NYI a pretty good offer for Pedan. |

For all the talk of the Boston Model, there is no Boston Model without Chara. I think that gets overlooked quite a bit when looking at specific models - they have a dominate player on the back-end that plays and owns the ice 30 mins a night when required (playoffs). LA has Doughty, CHI has Keith/Seabrook, etc.
Not saying I wouldn't mind a big, tough Dman on the third pairing to clear out the slot, but it's a supplementary piece that needs that top end component in place to really work. |

So would you rather get rid of RFA tanev at the draft and sign Franson or keep tanev going forward? If franson doesnt resign with nash |

Hopefully Benning can convince to sign here for a reasonable contract.
Edit: sorry was multi-tasking, meant to throw Boychuk's name in there. |

That Boston model dates back to Larry Robinson and earlier. It got called Boston model once Bruins kicked our asses |

Agreed. Not to mention one of the best forwards in the game, Patrice Bergeron. And one of the most intimidating top 6 forwards in Lucic. |

Tanev > Franson
But I'm sure some disagree with me. |

Pedan was quoted about two weeks ago about him saying he dreams about playing in Vancouver. |

When is the period of signing college free agents?
There's usually a window that generates a mild frenzy to get some of the best signings. |
