Is this a joke? what kind of bag do you think he would have? - cap1681
Yeah.. it's not like they are going to overnight ship a bag out to Anaheim and somehow have it land on the plane in the air.... He'll get a new one asap obviously. Happens all the time. |

A 2+ year old Penguins bag, stained in the past with the tears of rejection, and now with a few "happy" stains |

Well then screw rookies. We should just keep giving away draft picks for established guys. Fire our entire scouting department. We dont need them because we dont have the time for people to make mistakes and develop.
F Rookies - thickman1178
Our draft picks are high 20's, I'm fine with trading them for Perron etc. for a player to help now instead of a few years if at all. |

Another reason to give up our 2016 first to Chicago at the draft for Sharp/Saad, whichever they have to trade/not resign due to their huge cap increase for next season. |

After the initial shock/disgust of the Despres/Lovejoy trade, after hearing how excited the players are, and how excited Lovejoy himself is, i'm starting to look forward to seeing him in the lineup. |

How do you know Lovejoy is any better than the guy who left us? We all thought Scuds was the second coming, and look how that has worked out.
I do know if we are down a goal and you have the chance to throw it back to the D with either Despres shooting or Lovejoy that I would take Despres 10/10 times. - thickman1178
First off, if we are down a goal, Despres or Lovejoy won't even be on the ice, it's going to be Letang and Martin. |

ON THE PERCEIVED LOSS OF PHYSICALITY ON THE BACK END…
Letang: What’s most important is how well you can defend against top players. I think the mindset needs to be defend first and if you can finish guys and lay out some hits, that’s going to be important too.
Johnston: The important thing is, I believe, down the stretch and in playoffs is how you defend is really important. How your defensive skills are, how quickly you can break out of your zone. That’s a real important skill for defensemen. So right now, it’s playing good defensive hockey when we have to. Getting the puck, moving it into the hands of our forwards. So the physical part of the game is important in playoffs, I don’t want to underestimate it. But it’s how you defend, and it’s also how quick you escape your zone. - znagle
I've been trying to find out more about Cole and the more I read about him the more I think he is the type of player they were trying to mold Despres into. The reason I liked depres was his mixture of size and speed. Cole apparently can skate and is a huge man, 6'2 at 225 and farmer strong.
Reading your comment makes me think that HCMJs system requires more cerebral dmen than Depres is. I have no doubt that Depres will be an impactful dman in the league but he doesn't fit our system. Cole is his replacement in terms of size on the backend.
Those wondering how tough cole is should youtube his fights, he is capital S strong.

Agreed. If Chicago wants Kasperi and 2nd+ for Saad I wouldn't think twice. Or BB and our first + |

No... that I would not prefer.
Harrington... or as much as I'd hate it, Dumoulin + a pick for Saad would be better. |

Chicago is going to have to dump someone... we just don't know who... personally I am leaning to Sharp, because Hossa has too much term left. |

One could argue the combo of player + salary...Saad is one of the best values in the league. A power forward still on ELC.
For those arguing why we should even bother holding onto our picks, I submit Saad as exhibit A.
You get a great young player who can grow in your system, play 3 years for you under $1 mill, and start his 2nd deal likely somewhere in the $5 range.
The Pens immediately have to pay Horny, Perron, and the like top dollar because they cant develop anyone. That's a major disadvantage. We'll continue to have major roster holes until this is rectified.
But, the was the organization views draft picks and player development, this isn't changing any time soon. |

When we first got him and I saw he was 225 I was worried he followed Kessels offseason workout routine. But the reports are he's built more like Scott Stevens |

Chicago is gonna have to dump a bunch of dudes. But, Saad isn't going to be one of them.
They'll target Sharp and Bickel first. That's about $8-9 mill or so if memory serves.
Toews and Kane go up $8 mill. So they have to shave $8 mill in salary to account for the difference. Plus, you still have to have bodies to replace the buys you drop.
So, if they drop Sharp and Bickel, that gets them to around 8 in savings. They still need to cut a few mill more to get 2 extra bodies on the roster for around $1 each.
So, they really need to shave about $10 mill or so.
The vultures will be circling bigtime around that carcass this summer. |

Kane and Toews both go up to 10 mil... so it's even worse. But I do agree that they will do everything to keep Saad.

As I put either last thread or this one... Sharp is really a good target for us. Two more years at a not huge cap hit, gives Malkin that top talent winger hes not always had. I feel like it looks more and more everyday that Ehrhoff AND Martin are not being kept, for different reasons of course. We will have a plethora of cap space, and Sharp should not be able to get full value since everyone knows of Chicago's cap situation. |

I really hope that if everyone is healthy (minus Dupuis and Maatta) that Adams and Scuds are pushed out of the playoff roster. Making it to another round will more than make up for the money sitting. Sutter.
