There are cap issues for next season if they call up players from the Phantoms, of course at the same time the cap issues are overblown, and hyperbole. - PLindbergh31
They could just send down Rinaldo and/or Umberger. |

The cap issues aren't a factor now, it's overage bonuses that carry over to next season. |

Well there is no reason not to take a look at Straka and Co.
Wait... Chief just can't do it... He can't sit RJ for the sake of putting out some young fresh legs ..just not in his demeanour - 3flyerkids
Yes, there is a reason not to take a look at Straka and Co. Hextall would decide if Straka or any other player would be called up, not Berube. |

Let's get this done. Bring the kids up, send the hacks down, balance the books and ride this season off into the sunset. |

Making it work cap wise this season is not the issue . It's how it would affect the cap in the off season, that is the issue. |

Also sending a guy like Umberger down really only gets 900k off the cap. |

I'm not familiar with off-season cap implications. I'd just like to see a couple Phantoms brought up to finish out the year...that's the benefit of being out of the playoff race with 16 games left in the season. |

Haven't been following the Stars too closely, but I thought Ruff recently called out Lehtonen, and was going with Enroth. I could be mistaken. |

That would be enough to be able to add one of the younger players on an EL deal to the roster, in his place. |

Almost 70 games into the season, Umberger hasn't been a healthy scratch once to my knowledge. Do you really think they will send him down? |

Don't know how the two of those guys work together but you would hope there is some discussion regarding coaches and GM regarding these matters. |

If a deal can't be struck with vinny, and I can't imagine anyone would trade for him. They should buy him out.
I wouldn't buy out umberger. I'd rather they demote him to the phantoms and bank the minimal cap savings. Maybe there's a chance he can be a positive influence on our young players down there. He tries to play the right way and would be a force for the phantoms. Flyers can sign a better forward in UFA for under a mil |

Never as long as Berube is coach. We all know the answer.. Has he deserved a press box visit?? Hmmm let me think....

Here is the issue. During the off season, there is no LTIR, so Pronger counts in full on the cap, with no exemption. The cap is rumored to be somewhere between 70-73M. The off season exemption to go over the cap is 10%. So let's say for conversation, the cap is 71M. That gives you a cushion of 7.1M to go over during the off season. Pronger's cap hit is 4.921M. They already have about 800K that they used for players on two way contracts, that they called up this year. Off season cap rules state that all players on one way contracts count in full, and players on two way contracts count in proportion to the number of days spent on the NHL roster. The more players you call up, the more you have to account for in the off season, limiting your maneuverabiity.
Right now, Pronger's cap his plus the call ups amounts to 5,721,000 of the hypothetical 7.1M off season exemption |

I guess.
But what would you hope to see? They probably aren't playing in top 6. Most likely they would be in bottom six role unless Berube moved lines around. I guess I could see it. I wouldn't mind if Alt got some games on d. I had thought this would be the year he made a case but the injuries derailed that. Maybe Cousins could play on that third line with Raffl and White. Would be fun since White and Cousins are such yappers. |
