There is no such thing as fairness in an NHL locker room. Scratching Del Zotto served a purpose, and was done for a specific reason, and it sure seems to have worked. I don't agree with the length of it, but Berube has certainly helped Del Zotto get back to being a good player again. Akeson really didn't play well when he was here, and Straka had one game. Ron Hextall decides if Akeson and Straka are on the roster and available to play.

If there's no point to it now, which I'm assuming is what you meant to type, then what would've been the point earlier? Do you honestly think this switch is going to make a significant difference? This coach only has so many weapons to deploy. Scratching Umberger wouldn't have changed anything earlier, just as it won't now. Different players are scratched for different reasons. Taking Umberger off of the PP wouldn't have changed much in my opinion. I would've been fine if he did that, but that's not a reason why this team is where it is.
Honestly, everyone is looking at minor things, and wondering why this coach wasn't able to walk on water and create a miracle. We talk and talk about how players haven't player well and have regressed. About the inconsistency of the players and the team. How they don't have a good defense, and need this or need that. Yet want to criticize the coach for not being able to polish what they call a turd into a diamond!

Minor things can add up to big things, especially when they work and increase confidence. Just because the team sucks doesn't mean he gets a pass on everything he does. He's scratched a lot of players this season...don't understand why Umberger hasn't had it happen until now, when it really doesn't matter.

Umberger simply hasn't been scratched because the options to replace him weren't any better. It's really that simple. It wouldn't have mattered if it happened back in December either. Berube knows that. He knows what he has available to him. We're going to see after the season what kind of pass Umberger gets, but that's Hextall's decision. If you asked Berube in confidence if he would like better players to put in the lineup, what do you think he'd say? No I'm happy with Umberger! He only has so many choices available to him

i think if bradford is healthy, he has tremendous potential under chip. but the injury risks are just too much to take on the cap hit difference from a guy that you already know at the very least can be passable in your system.

Hextall appears to be the only guy calling the shots that has a semblance of a realistic plan to build a winning team.

The Phillies are flat out screwed for a decade. The Sixer's just keep watching the roulette wheel and never place a bet. The Eagles... Who knows. Chip goes all in and if he fails leaves the city in the dust without a second thought.
