I expected, as early as last July, that the Flyers wouldn't be a playoff team.
As such, I'm surprised how pissed off tonight made me. I was a bit apathetic after the losses to Boston & New Jersey, but as much as I felt they weren't a good team, I wanted to see them go down swinging.
If this is the best they can do, maybe Hextall should go scorched Earth this summer. - Jsaquella
I agree. They've shown no fight whatsoever being up against the wall the last few weeks.
At this point I'm fully expecting a big shakeup to the top 6 and further tweaking of the D until prospects are ready.
I would get fully behind Hexy going behind the bench to end the year as well. Unlikely as that may be. |

i still just dont understand how bradford, reading the chips simply as they are right now, carried more value than foles. - stayinthefnnet
I'm not a huge football fan, anymore, but it sure seems to me that the Eagles got better at LB, stayed the same on DL & the secondary. got slightly worse on the OL, stayed roughly the same at QB(albeit paying a ton to do so) and significantly downgraded at receiver and RB.
The only good thing with Bradford is, he had a lot of success in college with a similar system, and who knows, maybe he can be a QB version of Steve Mason. But There's not a lot of people who can say that the Eagles are a better team than they were on Friday afternoon |

At this moment, the one guy I'd be pissed at them trading would be Mason. I'm sure by morning that will change, but man, I'm disgusted. |

i hear you. to me, seems like they don't like being criticized. Too bad its been deserved.
Bryz was horrible, but what he pointed out wasn't wrong. He just couldn't stop a beachball, so it was all fluff. Mason has been in many similar situations too as bryz, but he's been much more reliable.
I give him a lot of credit. - the deaninator
i don't think bryz was horrible. overall, he was uneven. his best stretch came at the end of his first season and then fractured his toe - he was a bit of a train wreck against pittsburgh, but that was pond hockey and he managed to be less worse than fleury. he was arguably their best player against the devils. he's basically out of the league at this point, even though i still think he's capable of playing.
anyway, i'm pleased that mason is calling out the team. the coach doesn't seem to be willing...for obvious reasons.
mason has the body of work to back up his words here. |

the bruins game infuriated me. and i haven't been infuriated really at all this entire poop show of a season. i fully expected the devils debacle the next day. i was disgusted more than angry. tonight, i couldn't give a poop what happened.
i despise this team. |

Right there with you.
Mason is untouchable for me. The problems with this team run deep enough to entertain offers on anyone and everyone else. |

i'd be pissed too. i wouldn't care if they traded G as long as the return was appropriate. i'm not joking even a little bit. that's not be interpreted as "i want g traded". i don't. not advocating for it. |

I was numb after that one, expected the NJ loss. Tonight got me pissed.
I'd love to see Hextall fire Berube tomorrow, send Umberger to the AHL and rattle a few cages. Of course after a night of sleep I'll be calm. But right now, arrgh |

I just feel so damned bad for Mason. Guy is out there, obviously not 100%, playing his ass off, and the clowns in front of him are giving him zero (frank)ing support.
Right after that goal, it was like, "OK, Mase, there's a goal. Now shut the down for the next 58 minutes and change while we take a nap" |

maybe he'll feel the need to not let barney rubble have all the spotlight and do something crazy. i would be thrilled if he followed your suggestion. |

they were outshot something near 30-10 from the 2nd period on. desperate hockey team right there. i'd be so (frank)ing angry if i were him right now. |

out of all the deals, this is the only head scratcher to me, right now. (unless it is viewed as some sort of step in a larger scheme, but i don't know).
the mccoy deal i think will be great long term. cutting cole was a cap type move. reid did that for years with defensive stalwarts. the secondary needed to be addressed and he signed the biggest corner (outside of the pipedream of revis) that they could. maclin, well they are in a big hole at wideout now, but its not impossible to fill and for 11mil or whatever it was, he just simply isnt worth that.
Maybe he soured on foles. i dont think foles is a bad quarterback, but ultimately if bradford is healthy i do think he is the better player. i just dont understand that the combination of injury risk and significant salary raise didnt tip the value scales in the other direction a bit, even if chip did identify bradford as his target guy.

Corey Pronman said great skater, skilled creator, size an obvious issue, might keep him in AHL. Productive as hell in Q, tho |

Doubt it. This organization rarely gets these prospects into NHL games. Always getting blocked by some halfbaked FA signing. |

I get the other moves, too, I don't know enough about Bradford...just seems like a lateral move at a great cost. Kelly's a good coach, so maybe I'm wrong. But dumping all those guys and failing to make a splash in FA seems to be a half excuted plan

My only guess is that chip either thinks he can develop him or he'll be flipped for Mariotta |

The picks he included for Bradford that could have been put towards Mariota tell me there isn't anything more to this. Bradford is the QB. |

dont get me wrong. if bradford stays healthy, i think chip can coax some damn good numbers out of him (if they get another wideout. matthews is a nice slot guy, but he cannot be the number one right now). but the health factor, at least in my mind, should have knocked some serious luster off of bradford's perceived value. then, considering the cap savings. not necessarily the most important thing, but it still should play somewhat of a role.
i still think chip heavily lusts for mariota, but i really dont see how he has the horses to get it done. if it would have been the rumored deal involving the eagles first and the rams first, then maybe. but i dont know. |
