but at least Vinny plays with his head on straight and tries to hustle. With White being there and playing his role well, I would be fine with Vinny staying in the lineup. - WarriorHockey21
You can accuse Rinaldo of many things , usually justified , but him not hustling or going all out is not one of them.
As a matter of fact I would say if you compared the two VL is way more prone to looking like he is not trying then Rinaldo is. |

So they finally scratch Umberger, and it's to put Vinny on L4 wing & Rinaldo on L3.
Mason should get a raise if he's playing tonight - Jsaquella

The problem is, he HAS been given multiple chances and failed. Maybe if you give him an increased role, he finds some success. - jmatchett383
I can tell you no good will come of VL in the top 9. He's pretty much played with every combination of players over the last two years.
It's like saying "well maybe Ryan Howard hits 35+ homers and cuts down his strikeouts so we can trade him"
You know it won't happen. |

They pretty much told Mason where he stands when they "fired" Reese.

I just realized that Chief is redoing the BSchenn top line experiment. That had tremendous results the first time. |

For a time it did. Then Schenn seemed to dry up around the same time G and V did.

Not according to what Amaro's selling.
I'm just saying that not playing VLC, after how poorly he performs, is basically telling other teams that you've completely given up on him. If you play him, maybe he goes on some magical 10-game hot streak (which Howard can also still do) and raises a few eyebrows across the league. |

I doubt it because you just wouldn't protect the bad contracts. And it's unlikely any would get picked up... - FlyersGrace
Right, but I think the NHL offices know this. Why would any team protect the bad contract and why would the NHL force an expansion team that is trying to get traction ina new city into selecting bad contracts in an expansion draft. Nothing like committing the new team to having a bad team and unmovable contracts for the first 5 years.
I could really see the league adding a round of compliance buy outs AND doing the expansion draft like they did in the past. |

I'm in the large minority, but I think Umberger has at least progressed to "adequate bottom-6 NHL player." - jmatchett383
He would be fine as 4th line winger, problem is his cap hit is over 4M. |

Maybe 4th liner. I'd rather that spot go to a younger player though. It's not like he's filling a major role. He plays poopty ES hockey, takes up space on a PP he shouldn't be on and isn't in the PK rotation anymore. |

Well, the thing is that he's overpaid and not getting any younger. Judging him based solely on on-ice performance, he's an adequate 4th liner. |

Worth the gamble. I'd play him on the right side with B Schenn. |

Go ahead and try but I think it would be more beneficial to the team to see the young guys get a chance. |

The thing that baffles me the most is that, with all the attention paid to those two when they are on the ice, it is almost unfathomable that Baby wasn't putting up more points by accident. Just find open space and pick up the garbage. It doesn't sound that hard. Raffl seems to have figured it out, at least to a point. |

I think the Flyers could call up 3 forwards and lose nothing without Umberger. They may gain something by playing guys like Laughton, Akeson or Cousins over him |

I'm not against calling up Cousins/Straka/Hagg (for 9 games or less). But I'd rather they sit Rinaldo/Umberger and let Vinny try to find some magical elixir to draw some value. |

Not gonna argue there. But of the 3, Rinaldo and VLC are the worst 2. |

Raffl works a lot harder than B Schenn does, and through that creates chances for his line. |
