Lawson Crouse 2 goals & 1 assist last night.
- ob18

so are you taking positional need (wing) over player rating this year? Just seems like there is a glut of C and D in the top 15 rankings and very few wings.
My impression is that the depth in the draft and the depth the flyers have are the same.
Or do they take a center with the idea that by the time the young D is ready, some of the centers they have will be gone.

If you claim that 99% of the blame is on the players, and not Berube, then no.. it's not going to drastically improve them. Improve them, sure. But if the team roster overall sucks, as you have been alluding to in defense of Berube, then no.. a good top pairing isn't going to be the magic elixir.
- WarriorHockey21

Let me understand this logic. You claim that I claim that 99% of the blame is on the players, and not Berube, so therefore adding a legitimate top defense pairing is not going to drastically improve this team? Do I have that right?

Meier, Crouse, and Rantanen are all wings around where we will be picking

When has a GM called a coach out publicly, and that coach stayed around? Either Hextall could have talked to him behind the scenes, or he already has his mind made up that Berube is gone this offseason and is just waiting it out..

Silence on the coach doesn't mean the coach is doing a swell job.. Sometimes silence is when one has to worry.

- WarriorHockey21

Hextall was discussing leadership, and he clearly placed that issue on the players, not the coach. Hextall wasn't discussing the job the coach has done there.

If you were to start a team right now, with all players at their current age and contract status, who would you take first at:

center
wing (can be either)
defense
goalie

For me, I'm taking:

center - Stamkos
wing - Voracek
defense - Weber (biased, probably Hedman)
goalie - Price

- jmatchett383

Center- Seguin
Wing- Voracek
Defense- Weber
Goalie- Rinne

I haven't followed this draft class all that closely, but really like Rantanen.

Crouse will be gone by the time the Flyers pick. I'd be happy with Meier, Zacha (can play C or W) or Werenski. Rantanen doesn't really intrigue me. Provorov could be good, but I'm always leery about drafting Russians. Especially high in the draft.

If I put one pound of sugar into 100lbs of cow manure, does it make it taste good?

One player is not going to turn this team into a cup winning team if the other 99% of the team "sucks". Otherwise, the Coyotes would be winning the cup this year with OEL... and Yandle when they had him.

If you're going to admit that one or two players will make this team a winner, that means the overall team isn't as bad as you say it is... which in turn, means Berube has decent players to ice.. which means how they have been doing is at least partly on his head as well.

You can't say in one breathe Berube is faultless, and this team sucks, but in another say one or two players added to this team would make it "drastically" improved... That is logic I don't get... If the team sucks as bad as you say, then that one or two players isn't going to make much difference.

Just trying to max value for dollar.

I expect Drouin to be a top-20 player in the league in 1-3 years. Gibson/Mrazek to be putting up Price-like numbers in that same time frame. RJ's already terrific, and $4M for a 1C is hard to beat. Defense is the only one I'm not messing around with... Hedman is the guy I'm building around.

After #3, I think the consensus breaks down a lot. There's so many good players, I'm sure the team by team rankings will be all over the place.

You're stating more inaccuracies here. I've never stated that Berube is faultless, or without any culpability in what has happened with the team this season.

Adding a legitimate top defense pairing to this team would drastically improve this team. Without a shadow of a doubt.

The more video of Crouse I see the less interested I am. Kid seems to rely on the wrap-around a ton and that isn't going to translate well against NHL D men.
