It makes perfect sense. You believe in a whole lot of unrealistic bullpoop. Whether or not it was clever is open to interpretation. - Doc_Sarcasm

I don't see the need to continue this nonsense. You basically stated that I wasn't Hextall so it doesn't matter what I think. "Shut it down boys" was in reference to the fact that none of us are in fact one Ron Hextall and therefore our opinions, whatever they may be don't mean poop to you.
Just move on. This is embarrassing for both of us. |

If there was an another option, I'd name it. People for the moment are bashing Holmgren and calling Hextall the rookie GM a whole different animal but if I'm Hextall, I don't sit on my hands either. Regardless of the shorten contract, I still view Hartnell for Umberger a bad move. - SuperSchennBros
There may be other options to upgrade the D, although not likely any #1 guys available.
I am with you, wanting to see them upgrade the D badly.
Hopefully Hexy makes some moves this summer.
I'm all for rebuilding through the draft, but I also watch every game, and another season like this will be dreadful.
The idea of
Streit/Schultz
Amac/Luke (or Grossmann)
MDZ/Gudas
as the starting six next year terrifies me. |

The Flyers as an organization, have not stopped trying to make the playoffs. Right or wrong. - MJL
How do you know? And I'm fairly certain they know the playoffs are no longer an option and the draft is the next significant event on the calendar. |

Wow...
It's late afternoon and you implied that I woke up this morning in a bad mood. What you said was stupid. You also said "No Phaneuf for me" as if it matters. You responded to me. If you don't wanna talk me, don't. Telling me to shut it down and calling me a boy, that's just another stupid comment on your part. I don't have to shut anything down. Watching this season from start to finish, I don't even have words for it. You have to make changes this summer if you expect to be competitive next season. If next season is just a throw away just because of what could be in the future, I'm a little ashamed to be a Flyers fan right now but I don't expect this to be the case. |

I give Hexy the benefit on why he is being patient.
He probably wants to make some moves, but maybe there wasn't good value there.
He did get back value with Coburn and Kimmo.
He made some good pick ups particularly Del Zotto.
I will be upset if the D I posted above is the starting 6 next year.
I think he has to upgrade at least one spot there.
Look at Streit/Schultz... both decent defenseman and Streit is really good on the PP.
At even strength it would be nice if that was their third pair, but they are the de facto top pair for the Flyers. It's just not good enough.

I couldn't agree more and I'm glad you fought through the spelling and grammar mistakes I made in my original post and still responded.
Nick Schultz is 32 and signing here expecting to play a 7th defenseman role. He's played well enough to remain in the line up but he's only had a handful of seasons where he's been this good. I wouldn't have went out of my way to bring him back because I feel it's unlikely he can do it again.
I commented last night during the game that it made me sad that Schultz and Streit are our top pair. You've nailed it. We've gotta upgrade pretty bad and this is a pretty good example as to why. |

The offense should terrify you more.. On the defensive front we have lots of prospects on the horizon.
Giroux, Simmonds and Voracek are the only legit offensive players on the team right now.
We have seen what happens when they get shutdown or go cold. Honestly if the Flyers had any offensive depth at all this season they are probably much closer or in the playoffs.
To me, offense needs ot be their priority this draft or off season.

regarding the Schultz deal I am kind of meh about it
I believe it is only for 2 more years, and he has been pretty dependable this year
I guess he could decline but it was short and not too expensive, so OK by me
About a week ago I speculated if they would include a draft pick to try and entice a team to trade for Amac and then use the cap space to upgrade in UFA. It was nearly unanimously panned as a bad idea by the group here. I like Amac (likely more then most on here) but he gets paid a lot for his role on the team. Just thinking about other ideas to upgrade the D without waiting for Sanheim/Morin and the rest. |

We all want and expect changes. I'd even take Phaneuf in the right deal...we can't give up too much for him and the Leafs definitely need to eat some salary. We have differing opinions on the gap between the Leafs and the Flyers - this season, neither team is very good and they have a lot in common - and so I question the impact Dion would have on the Flyers. I just don't see him on par with Chara, Weber, Doughty, etc. |

I went back and read Bill's blog on Sanheim from before the draft and thought this comment deserved a big
http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=60428
I would not be disappointed in the slightest if the Flyers drafted a 6'4" two-way, fleet-footed defenseman with the 17th pick. Sanheim would be a good pick up. My guess is none of the commenters here have actually seen him play (or the player they have their heart set on). So all of our ideas of whether he is worth a 17th pick is based on our faith in the scouting agencies lists. I am sure I will like and trust whoever Hexy picks. - redcoat75 |
