After Rinaldo's season of regression, the fact he was "promoted" to the third line last night tells you were the mentality of this coach is.
How does Rinaldo repay Berube? By taking an offensive zone penalty on one of his first shifts of the game. |

None? Really?
Pulling Zepp after 2 goals that he simply got beat on to put in Mason, who was coming off surgery and wasn't "ready to start", but could come in cold?
That's just one, and I gotta go. I can't wait to see how this one pans out. - tangent_man
In my opinion, Zepp looked shaky, especially on the 2nd goal. I have no problem with Berube pulling Zepp there. It was an important game, and they needed to win it. Mason looked fine when he came in, and showed no adverse issues from the surgery. If he's cleared to play and is on the bench, then he can play. What if Zepp was injured in the game, and had to come out?

I voted for Mason but I agree with your sentiment. - Scoob
Mason is very frustrated with the Flyers organization and I wouldn't be shocked if he requested a trade |

Catching the defense up to a crap offense that if you shut down the only 3 legit offensive threats or those 3 threats cool off you have nothing.
God ..this team is terribad this season. - opeth_pa
I think this team has some good players, but just the wrong mix of forwards. Too many grinders, not enough skill. Need to add a little more creativity and speed, and the forwards will be fine. |

Not terrible. Who knows, maybe the Flyers find a pot of gold. - PLindbergh31
If not, it's supposedly a strong draft year. We're walking away with some good players. Two firsts and seven picks in the top 100 is no small haul. |

Having Mason as backup when he apparently wasn't fit to start was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I don't think that's on Berube, but it's still stupid. Putting your franchise goalie in net after your starter gives up 2 goals is on Berube and is also a dumb move. |

Down 2-0 early in what is basically a must win game, changing goalies isn't dumb. It's a common coaching tactic. |

Wasn't the game against NJ a must win, also? Why didn't he pull Mason for Emery after the 3rd goal on Sunday, or the 4th? |

No, I think Berube is a pretty good coach. I think he get's unfairly blamed for a lot of problems with the team, but that's part of the job. I don't think anyone is ever going to agree with every move a coach makes. I don't feel there are any head scratching moments though. - MJL
Based on what I've seen I honestly have no idea if he is good or not. The roster he was handed certainly leaves a lot to be desired but then some of his player decisions are curious. |

They will get a solid prospect barring the unforseen. Getting the first pick would make this season worth sitting through. |

Well, given his comments after the game last night his ticket is pretty much punched. No goalie who has ever rightfully called out a Flyers team survives long.

My mindset as a Flyers fan is that we need a bridge gap between just losing Kimmo Timonen and what Travis Sanhiem might be one day. Now, I'm not in love with Dion Phaneuf but he's avaiable and at best he's a number 1 defenseman but at worse a number 2. As weak as the Leafs D is, I thought he played Giroux very well the last time we faced the Leafs. With the strange deals the Leafs have made in recent years/weeks, I don't see how you don't kick tires in Toronto. He's the only number 1 defenseman out there that's available. I think the Leafs just want to be free from that contract and I think the Flyers can take advantage of this. Admittingly, I'm unaware just how deep this season's draft is but if it isn't as deep as 2003, the Flyers can afford to move Tampa's number one pick in a package for Phaneuf. Heck, you might even be able to move Umberger to the Leafs with it by convincing them that his buyout hit isn't very large and that we're trying to unload that deal as well. After anything along with Tampa's first and Umberger, you clearly have to make things attractive for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I'm not saying this is going to happen or even that its GOTTA happen but I think it's something Hextall should consider. Obviously if the Flyers think they can draft the next Corey Perry with Tampa's first around pick, then you keep it. I'm just throwing out there that we have two first and while it's ideal to use them both, we also managed to win over the rights of Hartnell and Timonen by trading a left over first round pick that we had. It's a risk. |
