Maybe call the game as it is intended and stop the clutch and grab and hack that is making this happen. - Doogs
I completely agree here. I think there has been a substantial increase in the amount of interference that has been allowed this year. Clutching, grabbing and hooking was supposed to be eliminated years ago, and when it was, scoring went up. Now that it's creeping back in, we're seeing a decrease in scoring once again.

Average size of goalies in the 90's was about 5'11". In the early 00's it was 6'0". Today average size is 6'2". |

Some of the elite goalie would struggle real bad Quick and Price comes to mind. Price would probably be the less impacted but they are all playing wide butterfly. |

Because NHL thinks people won't watch games if no one scores (which for some people may be true).
I enjoy seeing the skills/athletic ability of goalies more so than the skaters. |

Reduce the goalie equipment to the size it was at the end of the 80's beginning of 90's. - Alexzanki
Wo...protection is essential. Have you ever seen their equipment. It is small dude and these shot are not beer league YA KNOW! |

Make goalies drink before games. Some even amount so they're all equally drunk. |

If anything they should shrink the nets by 30-40%. Games should have no more than 3 goals combined, anymore and it becomes a clown show - mkolchenkov
True, it would give the Laffs a chance to win games |

It is not just because of goalies that there are less 100 point players, Eklund.
The players these days are much bigger, stronger and faster and there is way less room on the ice. Watch some old games then watch a live game. No comparison.
This obsession with goals and "fixing" the game to make it as it once was is loony though. I prefer watching hockey today as opposed to 20, 30 years ago. Leave the game alone. The more people tamper with it the worse it gets.
Look at these size comparisons.

Give coaches the ability to challenge too. Ref comes out with a breathalyzer, losing side in this regard has their goalie take two shots hard liquor. |

My own theory, but I think others would agree.
NHL.com talks about the rule changes for this season.
"And yes, the majority of the changes have been written into the rulebook with the underlying goal of increasing offense."
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=730220
And yes, I know it doesn't mean that they want an increase in offense in hopes to draw more of a crowd, but it's debatable. |

Stop (frank)ing with the game. It's fine. If people don't like it, then poeple can (frank) themselves. - glove_was_stuck
Other than the curse words, I agree.
It makes the NHL look pathetic and desperate when every season they announce these big rule changes and new lines on the ice etc. Hockey is a great sport as is. Small rule changes in the name of safety are great, but changing the way the game is played is crazy. Eklund you are wrong. |

Ooooh, I like it! The two shots is a true penalty because it could put them over the required limit. |

The game is better than it has been in some time. Just stop with the tweaks already. There is no need for 100 points. If someone can achieve it consistently in this era that makes them a special player. That's way better than inflating numbers for guys who aren't truly on that level. |

I would imagine most people arent huge fan of the game in the 80s compared to today as they were just born then, compared to people like me that were old enough to follow hockey closely in th 80s and being a kid playing. If you asked me back then I thought they game was great. Today the game is great as well. It does seem harder to score as the game, players, coaching and technology has advanced.
Euro size rink? Bigger nets? smaller gear all around? not sure any of this is the answer, but ask again in 5-7 years and maybe there will need to be a change. But for now the game is good.
