Why didn't it work out. I thought it worked out more than fine. It was a shame that injuries took its toll.
I'd make that Lindros trade again tomorrow. And the day after. - 77rams
This current team is slowly pushing me in that direction as well. |

One more year after this one. One more year.
Then the infusion of young talent can start to begin and hopefully support Giroux/Voracek before they age too much.
That's what I keep muttering in my head. One more year. |

The D prospects won't be making a big impact for at least two years.

Being at the 8th spot in the draft as it stands, who should the Flyers be interested in so far? Are we set at defense in terms of prospects?
Would you move up if possible? Will Edmonton make their first/second overall pick available? Edmonton is the only team who's had one opportunity after another to turn around their franchise like the Islanders and Lightning.
6'5 natural winger Jordan Greenway is interesting to me. Not only is he big but he's a great skater and based on what I'm reading, strong along the walls. |

Knowing how Forsberg turned out I wouldn't.
Not knowing how Forsberg turned out I would.
Other than Rinaldo I am hard pressed to think of a current player i would move Giroux, Voracek and 2 firsts for. - opeth_pa
would you trade that package for any two players on the pens? |

If Hanafin falls to 4 I'm all over him. Use the Kimmo picks to move up.

Greenway's a nice power forward, but a reach for a team picking in the top 10. |

I wouldn't say we are set on defensive prospects. As good as I think the big four are, we should still take the best player available even if its a defenseman. |

Your first pick in the first round? Always take the BPA. |

Sanheim is a 2. Ghost and Morin are 3-4 types most likely. I certainly wouldn't pass over a great D man just because of these guys. |

Agree here...especially the extra trade value if we hit on it. Defensemen are like Euros vs. dollars!

I would take the best player available but that said if two players are deemed equal I think I would go forward. |

If this was the 2008 draft, do you choose Stamkos or Doughty?
And no...LSchenn isn't an option. |

Dude we have no idea if these guys can even transfer their skills to the NHL, how could you assign them specific D levels like that? I've heard plenty of people that claim Sanheim and Morin could be #1s, and that Hagg could be a #2. |

thats a tough one. stamkos is the popular pick for first overall choice if everyone was redrafted right now.
but doughty is such a stud, at exactly what you need.
starting a team from scratch, it might be more tempting to go stamkos. but for the flyers, its hard to not go doughty.
if he is on this team, i think they make the playoffs. |

Exactly! But I do agree that if the BPA when they pick is a Dman, you take him |

I take Doughty, true #1 franchise dmen who can play nearly 30 mins per game are worth their weight in gold |

So true. I think everyone likes to hope for the best (myself included) but there's no real way to tell unless we watch/see it happen.

I get your point. Obviously this organization is in dire need of a #1. but those 2 were #1 and #2 overall. Looking at the #8-12 slot if the two players on your board were deemed equal I would go forward. |

ehhh I still think that's a stretch. You can throw doughty on the ice for half the game, but other defenders have to play other half... and we still have awful defensemen even if we did have doughty lol

Being at a position of a major advantage by having two firsts in a deep draft, it's a great mindset to go with the best player available but with that second pick in the first round, draft at a position of need. I think this franchise needs to stop trying to turn centers into wingers. |

yeah, but i think you would see such a difference simply through the slotting and minutes getting cut for other guys.
all of a sudden, maybe amac, or whoever, doesnt get as many tough minutes. (i know people on here debate that he does or doesnt already haha but thats not really my point)
regardless, i think it would have a trickle down effect throughout the entire defense, as well as the offense through better transitions and entries. |

Well I'd say Doughty is worth at least 10 additional points and 80 would have them in right now. If they had Doughty, they'd still have Coburn and that would be an excellent top pair that can eat huge minutes. |
