You prefer 3 hours and good money to watch something with no winner, without anything being decided at all?

I remember leaving those games in the mid-80s when my dad would take me to the Spectrum and, as a kid, thinking why did I just sit through that boring ass crap? I should have been home playing wiffle ball with my friends where we know how to decide who wins and who loses, and then we go swimming and eat pizza.

People put too much emphasis on "being the winner." I'm not saying winning isn't important or the ultimate goal, but I don't think a team necessarily deserves to win just because they're really good at penalty shots. It's more about points that "winning" to me. You get 1 point and the other team also gets one point because neither TEAM was able to win the game. I'm totally fine with that.

I'm looking at the case, and it is still sitting there wide open with its contents strewn all over the floor and and a little dog tearing up the doll the guy bought in the airport for his daughter.

I can agree with the bold because it's no longer a team sport at that point...the dynamics have fundamentally been changed.

That's my only problem with it. If you feel the need to determine a winner, that's fine. I just want it to be a team win where every player is involved, not one where the best out of 3 penalty shots is the winner.

I think questioning the leadership of thos team is such a weak argument and I think it deflects how much we've downgraded from last season. Claude Giroux's team was in a very poor position for the first two months last season and did what know other player in the league could do, which was put the entire team on his back and dig them out of which a gaping hole. Hextall as assistant GM saw this for himself. I almost think it's unfair to expect Giroux to do this year after year. I think it's more then fair by fans to expect our General Manager to add talent to help that top line, not divide from it. How anyone can trade Scott Hartnell, a bonafied top line Left Winger while suggesting we have disciple issues would simply added a guy like Radko Gudas and keep Zac Rinaldo on the roster. I apologize for beating this argument to death but the trade was premature and it took from that already weak Left Side.

I think you could ask, how much of a voice do the leaders really have in the dressing room? Lecavalier probably should be considered a leader on this team but that guy isn't coming off the fourth line regardless of what he does.

The Season is long enough at 82 games, even longer for teams that make a deep playoff run. That would be extending the game by 10 minutes. It's too much in my opinion.

Yeah I get what you're saying. You think it would make that much difference though?

If the Flyers were simply an awful team it would be more understandable. They are not an awful team. They are an inconsistent, flawed and sporadic one in a league of parity with only a couple of true elite teams, a couple of deserved bottom feeders and otherwise minor gaps from the upper-middle class to lower-middle class (which is where the Flyers are). Overall, they've been a good team at home and one that can't buy a win on the road.

more strange to me is that they struggled to "bounce back" from success; often following great wins against top teams with low energy performances (and way too many losses) to teams below them (in talent and in the standings)

Which is likely akin to what they said when a 5-minute OT was introduced in 1983.
- jmatchett383

I think extending the game 5 minutes is reasonable. Extending it 15 minutes, which is 3/4 of a period, isn't in my opinion.

Which is why I said "akin" to it. Also, it would be 3-on-3, so you would be able to rotate more players in those 10 minutes as opposed to the 5-on-5 in 1983. You think the players were completely on-board with playing 5 more minutes of 5-on-5 but would throw tantrums at 10 minutes of 3-on-3?
