On a team that scores at a historically low rate, how can we justify benching one of our only "skilled" forwards after 2 shifts and 2 minutes of ice time, then sending him down to the AHL while career AHLers are "earning" first-line minutes because they are "hard to play against"? I want to puke when I hear that phrase. This team sucks and playing an underachieving 20 year-old will : help chances of tanking, and also give us a better picture of what he can do while NOT decimating his confidence.

Nolan should be canned for outing one of our top, young prospects in the press, deserved of benching or not.

Doesn't the sign in the Sabres' locker room assay "results are everything, effort is nothing", or something to that effect? If they believed that, then multimillion dollar forwards like Hodgson, Moulson, Gionta, and Foligno would be benched before Grigo...they are the ones scoring 2 goals a month and cashing big checks.

We hit this topic pretty hard today in this thread. I agree with you though

I don't like it!

Ruff did the same thing calling out individual players! Call out the team, but to call out a player in the media is a coward! I don't care who it is (lazy Russian, European or a Canadian kid). It effects the lockeroom!

If the kid doesn't want to work for it, (frank) him.

You're really going to just plop him on the top line when he's a lazy slug and piss off the 20 other guys in that room?

I don't think so.

That's one thing (maybe the only thing) Nolan is good at. Rewarding hard work.

I work hard. Matt Ellis works hard. Neither of us can dangle the puck, see the players in open ice and dish it to them with the skill of a person drafted 12th overall who is only 20.
Miro Satan, Donald Audette and Pierre Turgeon were not hard to play against but scored lots of goals and set up lots of teammates' goals.

agree irish...you put a player in a role suited to his game to thrive..you let him succeede build his confidence and then teach him other parts of the game. You dont set him up to fail then punish him for doing so.

You can count me in the category of those that think Grigo has been royally fvcked here. I also don't feel he's gotten an extremely fair shake and at this point we've certainly not helped his trade value. So when the time comes we won't get d!ck for him. He's a skill player who in my opinion has not seen any real time playing where a player of his ilk would prosper, which is not with 4th liners with guys who've got cement hands and feet. You can make the argument that he didn't deserve it but look no further than what Larsson is doing. If we weren't down to the bare bones in the middle he'd still be pissing and moaning in Rochester and walking at years end. Which he still might but I'm sure more than a few eyes have been opened. Even Ennis was quoted as saying he thought he was a grinder type. If you never put them in a position to prosper for more than a game or 2 how would you ever know. I hope he goes somewhere and does well because the Sabres have done him no favors. My 2 cents on the subject. ... Not that anyone cares

I'm not sold on Grigorenko (I also feel he will be dealt in the off season - not a TM guy) but he did not deserve those comments from Nolan!

I'm not fully sold either, i just feel he's gotten a raw deal and like everyone else I see the "warts" in his game to quote Murray. He was screwed from the word go here. I hope that when he goes and I'm with you it's not if but when that he succeeds where he goes. Mishandled like a mofo.

If we let Larsson walk, I see him being picked up by a team like Detroit and it coming to bite us in the ass for years to come. He is a great 4th line center, plays a strong defensive game, can KP, get under peoples skin , and is now showing he can contribute offensive in the NHL. A Foligno-Larsson-Deslauriea checking line looks pretty good to me.

"Here’s a believe-it-or-not stat from a season full of them: The Buffalo Sabres have scored the first goal in nine of their last 10 games."

They need to cut that poop out....

Sabres lose in regulation, Bulls win to get into the NCAA tournament. Now if the Yotes win it will be a perfect Buffalo sports night.
