what is the big deal of being accused of tanking though? Who cares.. I am jealous of whatever you call it Buffalo is doing. Great job by the GM. Call it what you want but it will end up being very affective.... No teams are throwing games.. - Popcorn Kid
this is what i don't get either.........some people seem so defensive, as though others are accusing them of throwing games, or of players not trying hard.
i don't think that's the case. i think the players are working their asses off every night, trying just as hard to win as any team (other than the leafs). i just think managements strategy was to build a team they felt confident would finish dead last............either by bringing in past their prime vets, players who just aren't any good, or playing their young and inexperienced guys.
it's a brilliant strategy, and it will ensure they get a genertional center to go along with the good young players they already have.
i don't know why people are getting defensive, when most of the opposition fans on here are congratulating the sabres for what will likely end up being a very successful strategy. |

I feel like you're approaching this like you would a fantasy hockey team. - TheSabresTaco
Maybe, but signing Green is not difficult at all. They can do it.
I can't imagine trading Gorges would be difficult either.
Weber is another story entirely. |

no goalies have faced more shots, nor have they faced more quality shots than the buffalo sabres goalies - Michael Pachla
have you seen dallas play?
their offense is incredible..............their defense is AWFUL. they might not give up as many shots (because their forwards spend most of the game playing in the offensive zone), but the amount of grade A scoring chances (breakaways, odd man rushes, point blank shots, etc) is staggering. |

The best way I can equate it is when you hear the same song over and over, one hundred times.
You try to change the station, but there it is again.
It becomes tiresome to your ears. |

when the sabres acquired lindback he was 2-8, with a 0.875 sv% and a GAA just under 4.
they gave up enroth, who had 7 times more wins, a GAA 0.5 lower, and a sv% over .900
that's a significant statistical downgrade. - sensarmy_11

it's actually lindy's preferred style of play...has the d join the rush an pinch in all the time...
that being said, you haven't watched the sabres all that much, have you? |

I 100% agree with this. That said...
It gets very tiresome being called a disgrace of an organization, and a black eye on the sport of hockey.
That's all I will say about it

i've seen them play close games against ottawa, i've seen them do the same against the leafs.
but honestly....who wants to watch a tanking team.
seriously though, i don't get sabres games on tv here (maritimes is sens/habs zone).....i stream dallas games just because spezza was always one of my favorites, and i wanted to see how he did there...................they're REALLY bad. |

This assumes that the Islanders were the only team willing to give up that price, which is doubtful. They targeted the Islanders because they had that poop goaltender. There's no doubt in my mind. - buffalofan19
No doubt huh? Unless I see proof, I have my doubts. |

fair enough. i personally don't think that..............but i understand that it gets tiresome.
the only reason i hate the sabres strategy is that i dread having a team in my division with mceichel/reinhardt/girgensons down the middle for the next XX years. |

Again, how do you get a pick and a goalie from a backup goalie. What are you not seeing here. |

he sees it pretty well, cap'n taco...he's lucky (or maybe unlucky) that his team isn't going through this...especially in the age of social media |

your unwillingness to accept the fact that the sabres management are making deliberate moves to ensure the team wins as few games as possible is just weird.
yes, they got a pick..........that was good.
but yes, they also deliberately attempted to make their goaltending worse........which ended up backfiring, but nobody could have known that going in. |

we've really warmed to lindback even with his "anti-tank" play...how ironic it would be if he ended up re-signing |

Here's the thing, of course they targeted the teams with bad goaltending. They couldn't exactly trade one of our goaltenders to teams that didn't have some sort of goaltending issue.
It's not rocket science. Teams with good goaltending weren't going to trade for more good goaltending. It's not how it works. |

sometimes moves like that have a weird way of working out.
ottawa did the same thing when they got anderson. he was having a terrible year in colorado (statistically worse than elliott, who they gave up in that deal)....but it ended up working out well. |

Alrite, I'll respect that you see it that way, and I don't blame you for seeing it that way. But in order to get a pick for our UFA, you have to take a worse piece. It's a necessary evil and I don't think it's Murray saying, we need a worse goalie. If it was Enroth for Lindback and Neuvirth for Johnson, I would 10000% agree with you. |
