I feel everyone jumped in on the tanking and didn't give fair credit to the best line of the blog.
"Sabres captain Brian Gionta had another breakaway last night. He didn't score. Again. Must be channeling former Sabre, Mike Grier."

he sees it pretty well, cap'n taco...he's lucky (or maybe unlucky) that his team isn't going through this...especially in the age of social media - Michael Pachla
I just don't agree with some of the concepts being laid out here. I see where he's coming from, but I honestly believe Murray's word that he's building for the future, in so, acquiring picks for UFAs. The only way to do that when you're trading goalies is to take a statistically worse goalie. |

Here's the thing, of course they targeted the teams with bad goaltending. They couldn't exactly trade one of our goaltenders to teams that didn't have some sort of goaltending issue.
It's not rocket science. Teams with good goaltending weren't going to trade for more good goaltending. It's not how it works. - HonkFortheGoose

We're playing Svedburg tonight. I almost want to win to shove it up Julien's ass.
At least we got enough respect to play Holtby last night. |

I don't get people saying Buffalo brought in guys that were past their prime in order to help them tank. Who out there that was better would have voluntarily came to Buffalo? I hear the "woe is me, no one wants to play in Edmonton" excuse all the time, but Buffalo should have been able to sign better guys than Gionta, Moulsson, Mez and Benoit? Must be because of our amazing winters. |

my argument.....at least if that's what he was responding to......was that they traded away good goalies (relatively speaking), and brought in poop goalies. there was absolutely no attempt to get anyone who could stop the puck. they traded for, statistically speaking, two of the absolute worst goalies in the entire league.
that SCREAMS "we want to lose games"
i'm not sure why some people get defensive when others say the sabres are tanking. it's a brilliant move IMO, if you time it right.
the pens have done it twice, and have 3 cups to show for it. - sensarmy_11
Have you seen the stats of the goalies that left vs. the ones the Sabres acquired? Lindback has a .924 Save % since going to Buffalo. Enroth: .873 Neuvirth: .889 |

links with the word tank and any other team this season would be greatly appreciated - Michael Pachla
No need for links...just watch the TSN deadline day coverage. They talked at length about Buffalo tanking and I don't remember them taking much time out to dig at anyone else. |

How dare they dig at their own precious Toronto Maple Leafs. It's too bad. Dreger would have to sleep on the couch if Nonis saw him talking bad about the Leafs. They're more pathetic than we are by a mile. |

Bills LG Kraig Urbik has agreed to a restructured contract.
His base salary for 2015 went from $2.9 million to $1.2 million, so he's taking a pretty sizable pay cut. Urbik's restructure gives Buffalo around $16 million in cap room, not including Percy Harvin's new deal. Guard remains a trouble area for the Bills, though at least Urbik's bloated contract is no longer a burden.
Stevie Johnson got 3 years from the Chargers. |

Well at least Urbik makes backup money now. Really praying the Bills fix this line. They know they have to. |

Great article as usual Michael. As a Canadian who is a life-long Sabres fan, I get really pissed when I see and hear all of the negative things about Buffalo and the re-build we are going through. It is what it is - a sound business strategy. The Sabres have been mediocre for decades. The only chance for us to escape our mediocrity is if we get our generational talent this draft.
To heck and back with Bucky, Harrington, Dave Hodge or other posters on Hockeybuzz regarding what they think about our rebuilding (tanking) strategy. In the end, if we are hoisting the Stanley Cup in 3 to 5 years, that's all that matters.

It's interesting to me that Enroth played well here and went to Dallas and looks very much sub par. On the other hand, Lindback looked very sub par in Dallas, comes here and has a .924 sv %. What seems to be the common denominator here? - HonkFortheGoose
To me, and I'm not goalie but it has to do with consistent play. If you get the games, confidence grows and the team looks to you as the man and blocks shots and whatnot. When you are a BUG, they might not play as hard, and you haven't had game action in sometimes a couple of weeks. Kinda tough to be just thrown in and expect to perform well. Just something to think about. |

That's pretty much my point. I even said after Lindback got 2 or 3 games that if he got comfortable his play may improve. I wasn't wrong. |
