i don't know. I'd have to do more scouting. i've seen brown play a ton and played against him a few times. guance i've seen maybe twice. MAYBe.
to me stats are only part of the equation. - clark_griswold
I guess my point is that Brown as a 6th rd pick has increased his value so much, that a swap for a 1st rd prospect in the same draft would't even be a no brainer.
How tall is this kid really? 5'11 ..if he was an inch taller would anyone give a poop about size? |

well to be fair, connor hasn't made the NHL yet....and may not ever - clark_griswold
exactly...neither have any of the upcoming draft picks.
wonder what they said about Marty St. Louis as this point in this career? or Gaudreau two years ago?
I guess since Gaudreau was drafted in what the third or fourth round it hindered his progress enormously.
The constant implication that a player is too small or was drafted late mean nothing - only reflects the scouts inability to look past the obvious. Same goes for really big kids. He's slow of foot, he's had an off-year, ... surprising actually that no one ever thinks about how growing that quickly might effect coordination or fatigue. Or a smaller guy being forced to gain weight might slow him down.

recent years are still to be decided
Kane, Crosbyx2, Richards, Briere, Savard
even Allison and PMB were NHLers

Why is he being compared to guys that are 3 inches shorter than him? It's just as well we compare him to a 6'2 guy then

Oh i love connor brown. i really hope he makes it and has a good career. he's a great kid. I just don't have him down as a future piece of the team along with Rielly and Nylander.
I've always felt he won't make it...then the Hockey News 2 weeks ago ranks him 6th best on the leafs prospect list. It's not the BIble but it goes to show there's been a ton of connor browns in the past that are career AHLers.
He is 5'11 but very lanky/skinny |

Corey Locke didn't have the speed to make up for his size.
wicked hands and vision though. I saw him play alot in the AHL.
the big difference between him and a guy like Marner, is that Marner is much quicker.

I think his size is verblown a bit. Giroux is 5'11 and we rarely here people talking about his size.
maybe Connor goes out and puts on 15 pounds of lean mass over the offseason.
5'11 and 190 would be a good start |

This is utter horsepoop.
Our two best forward prospects outside of Nylander (Brown and Johnson) are both 6th round picks.
Some people here wouldn't know value if it whipped out it's Richard and smacked 'em with it.

just a silly comparison because people always commenting on his lack of size.
there's an interesting commentary that Bozak made I believe during his final year of college hockey... how he grew taller by 3 inches in the year after his draft year I believe...
I hope the team management isn't so stupid as to prevent giving a guy a shot because he's shorter than the "norm" or wasn't drafted in the first round.

Big guys can't just manhandle the small fast guys anymore either with the way games are called. Smaller players are becoming more and more commonplace in the league. They still need to have a bit of an extra gear to fight for space but I think the smaller guys are getting much longer looks these days. |

for me, those 6th round picks, until they actually prove themselves at the NHL level i expect nothing from them. sometimes i get surprised (Gallagher) but most of the time, you end up realizing why they were drafted where they were. i think it's just a safer assumption. i recognize that it's tempting when a guy comes in and has a dynamite rookie year in the A, but the question i ask is, what do they do in the NHL when that extra split second they have in the AHL is gone? i think that's so often what separates the high scoring AHL guys from the NHL guys.

Bottom line: It's important to draft well in every round. Thus, 6th rounders aren't as disposable as some make them out to be |

I've heard thats why you see more Euro players show up on the radar in their late teens. Their development programs/leagues don't drop kids off the map because they havent hit their growth spurts yet whereas in NA it's very common that smaller kids get discouraged from continuing on.
